I understand that most of the shooting victims are probably uninsured and probably have no way to pay the ridiculous fees charged by hospitals, doctors and rehabilitation facilities, and I don't begrudge them this good thing, but why take better financial care of them than others simply because their misfortune was a high-profile media event? Can't they take advantage of the normal mechanisms that are in place for everyone who suffers and can't pay? I wonder how that Aurora family feels who are drowning in medical bills after their kid got hit by a car while riding his bike? Where are their comped bills?

I dunno... something about this irritates me. I guess I'm just suspicious of the true motivation behind this.

I think a lot of times people say "yes X should be free" and they don't realize or really think about the fact that it's not really free. Nothing is free.

I know what you're getting at, but there are certain things that should be paid for by the country through taxes or whatever other means.

One of those is health care for all citizens.

You wouldn't need to turn to crime to pay for medical bills because they're paid through your taxes.

Well now, if you watch Breaking Bad...Walt really didn't have to resort to crime for his medical bills for a myriad of other reasons..... ;p

Back to the original fucking point.

People get shot all the time. It's not always in a batman movie and it doesn't always get mad media coverage, and christian bale doesn't always come visit you in the hospital.

They should take the help for their medical bills and donate any extra to charity.

Don't forget the individual mandate. At least in canada, you're forced to pay into healthcare via taxes and said healthcare won't magically evaporate the moment you need it and you won't have to choose between the life of a loved one or bankruptcy.
