I am going up to NYC for a date with a girl I met this week while I was there on business. Unfortunately I know very little of what to do in New York aside from the standard super touristy things. It will be a first date but will also likely span quite some time (2pm-whenever the night ends most likely). I need some opinions on what to do/where to go from people that live there. Currently the two restaurants I am looking at for dinner are http://www.megurestaurants.com/menu-overview/
http://www.peterluger.com/ based on a recommendation from my boss. But other suggestions for dinner would be great as well as other things to do. Basically I am looking for:

a light place to eat something small perhaps right after I pick her up
Somewhere fun to spend the day/early evenings (I'd prefer something active where we can talk but also have fun)
A restaurant
A club to go to after dinner.
Location would ideally be Brooklyn Manhatten or Queens. She lives in Flushing but I don't want to hang out in that area.

Thanks, I think we have some people on this bored that are familiar with NYC right ?

I know Synth is a big NYC guy, but he's been MIA on these forums for a while.

My knowledge of NYC is also limited to tourist traps and the like - but I can ask my Sister who lives there, Upper East Side; works in Brooklyn. My other Sister lives in North Jersey and commutes to the city now but used to live on the Upper West Side.

Good luck though man!

Jazz clubs and restaurants in the Village/NoHo/SoHo area are what I know. This is probably not what you are looking for, unless you happen to know she likes jazz. Those kinds of places are also crowded as shit and have some drink minimums (like a regular club), but there's also no room to dance.

Yeh probably not what I am looking for :/ but thank you. For restaurant I am thinking of one of the ones in a skyscraper that rotates around. I realize the food is generally not worth the price but personally I'd really like to see the view (and I think she would too).

One of my sisters got back to me. See below:

Quote:
Hmmm, well for places to eat I would suggest Dos Caminos- great Mexican food, great margaritas, and on the east side of Manhattan so convenient to queens. I can suggest others too- just depends on his price point for this dinner. Dos Caminos is upscale but not totally insane price wise.

I don't know clubs at all- but I know wine bars.

Bess and Frank went to coney island and had fun. I might say if he just wants to explore, soho or china town come to mind as great areas to walk and talk and shop. China town ice cream factory is a great spot for a snack. They could also do a boat ride from south street seaport-- but tell him not to do a booze cruise, because those do get touristy. Rather, he should do some research and find someone with a sail boat- they take much smaller groups, like 15, and it's more personal. Also, it's just amazing... One of my all time fave things to do in New York.

Something else fun might be to hang out in Prospect park in Brooklyn. It's larger than central park and has tons to do- I'm sure he could research online and figure out a plan.

There ya go, I'll let you know if they have any other suggestions.

Thanks for asking around Azelma. I had never heard of prospect park. Is it safe at night to walk around? Coney Island or a boat rental are also good possibilities for something to do during the day. I will have to ask her if she likes Mexican maybe that place you recommended would be good for a light lunch.

So things have changed a bit. I am now seeing two different girls one Friday one Saturday.

My current plan for Saturday is

Coney island 3-6
Dinner at The View 8pm
Walk in Central Park after dinner

The plan for Friday looks like
Dinner at a Japanese place with my boss and 2 of his female friends ( I don't know the name of it he told me but I forgot).
Clubbing somewhere (I think my boss is going to plan this too).

I am a bit hesistant on the central park bit on Saturday I'm not sure if it's good. Another thing I thought of was one of those helicopter rides but I don't know how fun they are so anyone with experience would be great.

Any clubs/concerts/events that are going on next weekend would be appreciated. Recommendations for hotels would also be nice.

Timeframe will probably be something like
8pm-whenever on Friday
and
3pm-whenever on Saturday.

I might leave earlier on Friday if I can work it out with my clients and I have good reason to, but not sure.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

Never do anything big/make any grand gestures on a first date. I think helicopter rides might fall into that category. Go someplace low-key and let her talk about herself. That's all the advice I have for now.

Hey all. I have one last favor :D

Friday night is pretty set, but Saturday we are still looking for a club. I'd prefer a club with house/trance etc. music and if its in Manhattan that'd be great. My boss said his girls expressed interest in going to basically an all Asian club, and while my date would probably like this as well (she's Chinese), I've heard the pure Asian clubs can be rather intolerant of non-Asians (via yelps reviews). I am therefor looking for a relatively mixed club. My original choice was Pacha but one of my boss' girls didn't like it. If I can I'd prefer to go the same place as them so something we can all agree on (to me group settings at clubs are more fun).

Thanks for all the tips :)

The obvious answer is to just not go to clubs since they're terrible. Having someone rubbing their butt on your dick is pretty nice, but you can do that in the safety and comfort of someone's home without dubstep, $5 bud lights, a cover charge, and the smell of other people's sweat.

EDIT: If she likes to dance, then I guess you're clubbing. At least at a bar the drinks will be cheaper and/or better and you can actually spend time talking to her as opposed to fist-pumping to Skrillex with a bunch of 20-somethings who still wear Axe.
