Why do people complain about Day one DLC. The development team has a month or more before game launch but after they've finished the game. They don't sit on their ass and do nothing. Most of the time anyway. Borderlands 2 has finished development and guess what, they're working on DLC now.

Disc locked content is completely different though.

because almost all day one dlc is disc locked content. unless we're talking about planned expansions.

@Yew, no fucking way lol. I'd guess it's sold between 1.5m and 2m preorders, and will probably break 3m boxes sold on it's anniversary. The orginal sold over 6m boxes, and is still fairly popular today, and the additional of the HoM rewards definitely revitalized the game.

Derp kinda misinterpteted what you were asking; WoW is killing itself, numbers from last week put active accounts under 10m, and they're only going to keep dropping. GW2 might help push it over the edge, but I'd bet serious money we're going to see are F2p option for WoW pop up within the next year.

There's always surges after expansions. Pandas might be silly, but it's still gonna bring a good million back.

WoW's gonna take awhile to burn out. At the end of the day, it's still the best MMO available by far.

Disc locked content is different.

Borderlands 2 is gonna have day 1 DLC I believe, but they finished developing the game weeks ago and have been working on DLC ever since.

Capcom can suck it though.

What is relevant is the tremendous inflationary pressure that $$$ for gold equivalents puts on the entire economy. Everything functional becomes so expensive there is no way you can afford it in a timely manner without resorting to $$$.

That's great, but it doesn't change the fact that whatever you happened to buy was entirely pointless in the end because it already existed as a different color.

What you are really saying here is, you think market economies are awesome but you have absolutely no idea how or why they work.

The entire POINT of a market economy is that you can do just that. You can get rich and powerful selling Thneeds and change that currency into anything you want. That is both the strength and weakness of a market economy.

I'm saying that a cosmetic item is a cosmetic item.

It doesn't. WoW has probably about a million or less Western subs.

Out of that 10m, half are C-WoW, which are worthless because C-WoW has no sub and is run through a Chinese-owned contractor (per Chinese law), and has higher localization costs and an effective monthly fee a fraction of NA/EU-WoW.

Out of the remaining 5m, a ton are:
-subs still being billed to people too damn stupid and lazy to read their credit card statements
-RAF
-second/third accounts
-botters
-Blizzard F&F, media, bloggers and other hangers-on
-Latin Americans (same as with C-WoW)

Sure, it's revenue either way, but there's really nothing there but the sheer cash flow. The cultural/intellectual capital represented is far lower than the sub count would indicate.

Activision works hard to conceal the reality that WoW's hegemony isn't just under threat, it's already gone.

Not that I care much, but you seem so sure if it.

You don't know what you're talking about.

If something has gold value it is no longer cosmetic because it can be cashed in for items that are not strictly cosmetic. That is how a market economy works. Anything that is worth currency is equivalent to anything else that is worth currency. A cosmetic item is therefore equivalent to any non-BoP functional item in the game.

You botted for gold in WoW so you were able to ignore the economic side of the game (and it's unlikely that will be possible in GW2), but for those of us who don't cheat or exploit, something that unbalances the economy is hugely destructive.

You've never played a MMO with a cash->currency type deal (EvE is in its own realm and not comparable to WoW or GW2 and I doubt you've played it much anyway) and haven't seen those kinds of systems in action or how hugely unbalancing they are. The impact is bigger than just that those with $$$ can get more gold, it's that they produce an insurmountable wealth curve, such that you basically have to spend $$$ or go home.

But of course your total ignorance on the topic and my explaining to you how and why those systems are bad based on fact won't alter your opinions...

Replacing item A with item B which has equal stats but a different appearance is cosmetic. You cannot change this fact.

But it is cosmetic because only aesthetics change. Attaching a value to a cosmetic item doesn't suddenly make it uncosmetic.

I literally don't give a shit about this game.

It is, however, watch you guys plug your ears and scream as Aestu actually vomits sense in one of his rare moments of clarity, between posting nude pictures of women he's trying to sleep with and everything.

EDIT: D3's actually looking like it might be fun again, but I'll see how the Witch Doctor changes pan out.

So... has Fubu decided on a server yet? This thread was all about talking about this server, and that server, etc. Is there a consensus?
