The excuse of distance has no merit anymore since Aestu made it down.

I guess money is the only thing left.

I don't have gold in WoW. I don't have gold in life.

If I ever go on that road trip though...

Dagery and I can get together and troll are way out of Florida!

I will be claiming cost as my excuse.

edit: looks like the bus would have only been $250 but it's 17 hours each way x.x

Honestly, NC seems like a VERY good compromise. Rent a beach house, pack it full of bros and nobody can walk 3 feet in any direction without slappin dix. It's close to Usd, Xeoni and Rikki, kinda close to Fanta, myself, Jubber, Eturnal...and also kinda close to Necra, Dagery and Kayllaira, iirc.

I think this could work out, I'd be willing to let Aestu ride along if he could put up with my navigation fail [Fuck Moco] and Amtrak down to the area again.

Due to the scope involved with something like this, we'd need to plan it way in advance...allow people to make travel arrangements (Zaryi, Jushiro?) and utilize PTO, save money etc.

I would totally fly out for a fun little weekend. I've only gotten to meet Henq and Kaldoreii and a couple of guildies like Ganohm and Granite/Kroad.

I'm always up for visits from Fubu bros when you are in So Cal. :)

AS DISTANCES VANISH

I left the hotel today at 0920 to catch the train to DC at 1140. The hotel was about five miles from the station, I walked. I stopped at a Latino cafe manned by this very sweet 15-year-old Latino girl. Had an omelette and quesadilas with christians and moors. I overheard her arguing with a family friend about Mesoamerican civilizations - she thought the Aztecs were further south than the Inca or Maya, which she thought were indigenous to Mexico. I informed her that the Aztec were indingeous to Technoctilan, present-day Mexico City, and the others were further south. As I left, the family friend/relative was warm in his thanks.

The train didn't arrive. Upon closer examination it seemed I had accidentally booked my return for the 26th. I was unable to rebook online using my phone so I called Amtrak. They needed the last four digits of my credit card, which I didn't have because I had taken an offer to bill to an Amtrak Mastercard and have the card mailed to me later. So I was transferred to Chase, who after a long dialogue with two Indians, supplied the info. I called Amtrak back. This time a different rep asked not for the last four digits but for the CVV2. I patiently explained the situation for the third time, and she talked to her manager and just got it done. Apparently, the reason the number was neccesary was that the price was higher, but the manager simply waived the difference, vacillating the need for authentication. I thanked her.

It began to rain hard. I was wearing long sleeves and cargos, and all my clothes dry quickly; my Jewish hair also provides excellent protection. If I were in a Tshirt with short hair I'd have been miserable.

This train leaves at 1410, so I wandered around looking for a restaurant to crash at. The only place I found was this Chinese restaurant I now sit at. The front of the restaurant faces away from the road because, it seems, they strive for an exclusively Chinese clientele. I asked for a power socket to recharge my phone, laptop and implants. The socket fits very loosely on the plug; clearly shoddy construction. I bet the entire place isn't even on the books and has never been inspected. Overhearing conversations reveals bits of stereotypical Chinese-American banter, about some girl hanging out with her Jewish BFs friends who don't like her because she's not Jewish, and some little Chinese girl reciting a poem about being loyal to the family. I ordered only pickled cucumbers and something that is supposed to be a rice based dessert but tastes like (and might be) tripe. Didn't touch it, I'm just crashing. The waiter just asked "Didn't touch it? Don't like it?" in a cutsey voice. Not sure if sarcastic.

Due to trouble on the track, the schedule has been pushed back, and I will not be back in Boston until 0150 Monday. Add time on the T and I can expect to be back in my room, metamorphizing back into a cauliflower, at about 0400 Monday, after what will have been 19 hours of continuous travel.

Will provide further updates.

So, Andrew, to you I say, please, sir, take the bus.

I really, really want a play by play TLDR wall of text of the entire night, complete with your sarcastic and satirical writing style. If you find yourself with downtime on the train and you're caught up on rest...that is a story a bro would find cool. It's funny because Shu and I pretty much echoed this sentiment entirely.

As opposed to "corn oil as fuck"?

Honestly no, distance IS completely moot. What matters is not distance or time but complexity and fuel economy. Once you book and get through the bus/train/sea/air/transorbital terminal and sit your ass down on the vehicle, the actual length of the trip, how many miles, or even kilometers, are covered, doesn't matter. As I had to walk, drive, take a bus, rail and train to get here, the experience would be pretty comparable for Jushiro or Goibon.

Anyway, the train from Rockopolis to DC was late. A foreign man was sitting with his beloved, very smart and hyperactive ten-year-old boy, who was a real train lover and running about carrying on about how eager he was to see the train. Sweetest thing. After about 10m, I checked the status of the train with my phone, then silently walked over to the man and showed him the screen. 32m late. He passed this on to his feisty son, and thanked me. 40m later the train arrived and we boarded. The MD -> DC leg is short, only an hour. As we got off, he said again, "Thank you, sir", apparently very glad I had put him and his son at ease. Funny his almost gushing manner was the same as the Mexican dad earlier.

And people say I lack compassion/social skills.

Granted, its worth nothing in almost all cases - all noted here - the people I interacted with were not American. I had also had an interesting convo with a man from Ghana about my age and of similar disposition on this same train on the way in. Go figure.

So I managed to score some more Karma. Eturnal had suggested I visit the Mall during my stopover in DC, but I had already seen it in Fallout 3 and was wary. Despite his repeated assurances it "isn't like that" and "their skin color is normal", I didn't feel comfortable dealing with the mobs I knew would be patting everywhere. So, I'm sitting at Sbarros at the terminal waiting for the next leg, the train to Boston, which departs at 1720.
