I returned the $60, decided to hold onto the 100k and play with it until MoP. I'm not getting mop, I think, don't see the point.

Pretty sure you said the exact same thing about Cata, and yet here we are. See you September 25th in the leveling zones or dungeon finder.

I have low expectations for MoP short of it being a fun chat client/Pokemon game. I don't know how I feel about Rogues but Dashe and I will probably be there day 1 killing everyone we can because they're too focused on leveling and accidentally ganking Usd's warrior.

I think I am near 4 million gold. It really has no meaning now. I might buy MoP, depends on what kind of mood I am in next paycheck.

I might still take you up on your previous offer of 100k for the digital deluxe. I haven't decided if I'm going to play the expansion yet, though, so I don't know.

You know, I never could dedicate myself to making tons of gold while playing WoW.

I know people used Add-Ons for AH alerts/selling, could be good at buying up a bunch of stuff then putting it all up for sale at a profit, selling things in stacks of 1 etc.

I also know that being dedicated with dailies was an easy way to make a shit ton of gold. Having a bunch of max-prof characters was also a great way to farm, and build stuff on one toon, then sell it all at a profit on another.

Then there were bots and farming.

I just could never buckle down and make myself do it. Whenever I built my gold supply up to 10k or whatever, I'd inevitably blow it on a purple or a rare pet or something.

I'm actually curious though, for you really rich bros (especially Aestu).

Is there some strategy that isn't covered in what I listed above for making gold?

It just seems like it just took time to get all the economic pieces in place (level the profs, farm the shit)...then it was a matter of simply farming / working the AH. Probably keeping more gold would allow you to make larger purchases of mats, be opportunistic when price fluctuations peak etc. etc. -- the rich always get richer simply because they can afford to spend more money to make more money.

Amirite?

Takes money to make money. The rich get richer. Insert additional phrases.

Since it doesn't really matter anymore, I'll tell you.

There is no one way I earn gold. Pretty much I jump on any opportunity that presents itself.

-Soloing raid bosses (ofc)
-Crafting for fees (I don't do tips, I stipulate fees)
-Crafting items to sell on the AH (mostly plate but also engineering, alchemy and enchanting goods - I have almost every recipe in the game on my account)
-Protstitution
-Farming LFD satchels
-Selling JP gear

A surprising portion of my income comes from selling obsolete items such as level 80 gear and meta gems, Mongoose scrolls, arcanite bars, and old Scrapbots/Field Repair bots used to make Jeeves. In the past, I also sold Doomwalker drops and even Soulweave gear (you know, the arcane resist stuff from Karazhan). I also sell a lot of contemporary gear - belt buckles, weapon chains, blue-quality plate gear are big sellers. Also engineering pets.

I am very efficient and carefully manage gold on a continual basis. If it's grey, I vendor it, and if it isn't, I AH it or send it to an alt for storage or processing. I do occasionally buy up stacks of goods and break them down or otherwise manipulate the market, but I do this only incidentally when I happen to notice them on the AH.

I have little downtime, I always try to be doing something all the time. I solo Saph or T5 content while waiting for things to happen. I can tank heroics fully one-handed (facilitated by my trackball, which has Jump and Autorun bound to mouse keys) and often do so while talking to or arguing with someone.

One thing I do not do is farm ore/herbs. Until T12, I didn't have an herbalist or miner on my account, those being the last professions I acquired.

Contrary to what many believe, I do not have an unlimited gold supply. I get more mileage out of it through careful management and being a very aggressive negotiator. Also, you would be amazed how many people simply don't bother to collect their gold at the end of a run in which all comers are offered gold. I don't deliberately try to make people forget, most often they simply leave while I am going through the raid; their loss is my savings.

After all is said and done, my pet, mount and achievement efforts have cost approximately two million gold. The biggest expenditures were on the Immortality steed (400k), Azure Drake (200k), Mimiron head (100k). Efforts to farm Invincible have cost about 150k so far.

Thanks for sharing, Aestu.

I figured there were large sums of money to be made with mats/items in the "hard to level" points of professions like enchanting, I did not know level 80 stuff could be so lucrative though. As a priest, soloing was always a bit challenging. and I could never do things at the speed of a Pally or DK. I did solo Doomwalker once when I found him...checked for him every time I logged on for the next month and never saw him again.

I remember when I was an enchanter and had quite a few recipes, and I relied on tips...people's good will (big mistake). I even came up with a little rhyme to spam in Trade Chat which help separate myself from competitors.

...I often went unpaid for it, and even lost money as sometimes I'd kindly provide someone with an extra essence or shard if they were one short....and they still wouldn't tip.

From what you've told me, it seems my herb farming and mining (had an alt with mining) was a waste of time and not the best economic investment. Makes sense given competition with bots, and the general slowness of it all.

The biggest thing you did though I think was plan and calculate much better. I was careless with gold in general, both acquiring and spending. I'd have times of feast and times of famine where I could barely afford cloth repair bills due to frivolous spending. Thankfully I play real life finances a bit more carefully. :)

You just weren't cool enough to have a bot at the auction house selling gems on a secondary account. Of which was constantly rescanning the AH every 2 minutes to auto-bid under by a single copper or buy out when low enough.

I made a small fortune selling engineering pets, often times crossing paths with Aestu.

I'm much like you Azelma, I don't farm in any way.

Though, when the new xpac hits, I'm going to mine till my dick falls off. I was selling Uncut Nightstones (green quality cata gem) for 600-700g each and this time around people have even more gold so I'll be able to squeeze that much harder.
