That's where you're wrong. It doesn't always have to turn into "some grandiose reaffirmation of self" as you put it, but there are times when it does. When it is necessary to reflect, all too often people withhold from it because of stupid and weakminded concepts like "that's so beta".

PTSD is no joke. One of the vets I used to drink with when I first moved back here had serious issues with it. There is some shit people really are not meant to see/experience. It fucks the mind up. It may be over-diagnosed, like ADD/ADHD is, but over-diagnosed doesn't mean imaginary.

Not having as many issues as you do (namely kids) i don't know what to think on this. I want to say that what you're proposing seems a bit extreme, but on the other hand i know if you're dealing with shit, sht less extra shit you add to that existing pile of shit, the better. It's really difficult to ensure you don't end up in a more complicated situation than before. That's why hookers are so great.

I think it's a safe decision in the end. If you can combine it with an improved diet, exercise, and some reading or sometihng, you'll feel mentally and physically fresher and more manly and masculine.

to stay related, it might be a good idea for a bit but going a full year might be overkill. i'd say see how you feel in a few months, since the last emotional roller coaster i went on, 3 years ago or so, still eats at me every so often. you just have to reach a point that you're okay with it for the most part and then move on with everything. it'll still eat at you at random points for no real reason, at least my situation does, but i just deal with it for the day or so it leaves me in a shitty mood and then life goes back on.

mine has nothing to do with a chick or kids though, but it's just as much of a thing that fucks you up on the inside.

Honestly, I find it strange and surprising you seem to find it so much easier to pick up on my viewpoints now having met me face-to-face. Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised; I know that most people do not possess my extraordinary ability to abstract or relate to and understand things that are far distant in space and time. I suppose it's easier to internalize something someone said when you can put a face you've seen and a voice you'd heard to the remark.

For my part, I typically don't feel lonely, but I've been feeling lonely more lately. I am not accustomed to the sensation and the novelty rather than the sensation itself makes me somewhat uncomfortable.
