Democrats are bad and Republicans are worse, but nowhere and never has there ever been a group of people as fucking stupid as undecided voters.

Also, today my apartment is being treated for bedbugs. So I have to spend most of the day outside. Urgh. I always try to stay indoors (and when I was in school, skipped class) on 9-11.

If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little.

Right or wrong, that's a poor argument, proof being that it relies on sheer vitriol to make its point. Would you write off the Catilinian Conspiracy or the conspiracy to assassinate Hitler or Caesar or the October Revolution because "zomg its a conspiracy"?

What about the Church conspiracy to cover up embezzlement, nepotism and pederasty? I guess that's a crazy thing too. Can't be that many clergy working together on anything. Right up there with the plot to clone Jesus from the Shroud of Turin.

Logically, if the person in question were killed (or died suspiciously), that would imply he was onto something. Conversely, if we assume there are many such secretive goings-on (what's the budget for the CIA/NSA/FBI/DIA?) then relying on murder to keep things under wraps would result in a huge number of body bags.

If secrets and conspiracies didn't exist then government and business wouldn't keep them. It's that simple.

Really the anti-conspiracy nonsense is just the product of mental laziness. The anti-conspiracy mentality, that what is on TV is how it is, is in essence, the mirror image of those who see everything as one vast conspiracy.

Both are the product of a lazy mentality that doesn't want to get facts and figure out what is really going on.

I know, I just wanted to link it with the title. Also, wanted to make sure the conspiracy theorists saw it.

Aestu, your right that the argument has a lot of vitriol, but it's not based on vitriol. Fact is...the government would really have no problem killing some douchebag with a Macbook if he were the one person exposing this huge conspiracy. Not to mention he links to all the other bullshit theories "how hot does steel burn" etc etc.

The ONLY conspiracy I think would be credible would be if it were a Pearl Harbor-type thing. Just like the US knew about that beforehand....the US knew something was going to happen...had some kind of idea...and let it happen anyway to get us involved in wars in the middle east to protect oil interests and spread our influence. The whole Bush admin argument that "oh Saddam was somehow connected to Al Qaeda...the whole Axis of Evil is linked" bullshit makes me think that was their motive all along.

But did the US Government set blast charges or whatever and bring down those towers? No. It was a bunch of terrorists. Ironically..it was 15 Saudi Arabians...who the US has traditionally tried to be buddy/buddy with due to the $$$$. It was inconvenient for the US that they were Saudis.

Every conspiracy you cite is hugely different from the one you originally suggested in that the ones you cite are small groups of people with strongly aligned interests, with all efforts performed by the members of the small group, and in most cases motivated by some calling higher than enriching themselves. That in no way compares with what you originally suggested, which is a disparate group of parties whose interests only align in profit, farming out their misdeeds to an expansive web of hired guns. No one said there are no conspiracies...aside from the few legitimate cases you cite, there are common criminal conspiracies, and those work for the same reasons the conspiracies you cite worked. They also fail for the same reason(s) I suggest, mainly that people don't know when the hell to shut up.

Killing the half-wit that made the "Loose Change" video wouldn't have made a difference if no one knew who he was. The premise of the Maddox piece was that the sort of organization the moron in question was claiming perpetrated 9/11 would be more than capable of erasing his work almost immediately after he released it before killing him...and probably making it look like an accident. No one would make any link with the conspiracy theory because any mention of the conspiracy theory would have been erased. It's not "lazy thinking," it's following the premise of "Loose Change" out to its logical conclusion.

People commit violence and do bad things for profit all the time, in the contemporary examples I gave. And things get pretty wacky when you make profit a "higher value" and establish it as the sole unifying force in society. Strange bedfellows indeed. That is the dark side of your Randian ideology in practice.

What about the Mafia? What does garbage pickup and pop music have to do with gunrunning and prostitution? If it's so vast and hidden, why can't the Italian government break its power?

When you served on a sub, did you know what everyone was doing, why they were doing it...hell, how often were you sure where you were and what the mission was? Not to get into the world of Hunt For Red October, but the point stands, you're merely a cog in a vast machine. Thousands of people like you do their bit...for what purpose? How many really know?
