Red Cross is a fucking scam. They are in the business of shaking people down so they can cut checks for people richer than their donors.

Non-profits in general are scams. Not for nothing is spending any amount of time "employed" by a non-profit a career killer because anyone who does anything knows they sit around shaking people down for money, eating lunch and cutting themselves checks. Admins get paid six digits to wander in at 11AM and out at 3PM two days a week.

If you want to donate, donate time.

Non-profits are generally inefficient, and selfish. You're exactly right -- it's all about getting more donors to support their absurd salaries while they do nothing for their "cause"

It's a contribution, nonetheless, so instead of chastising them for giving something, just appreciate it because it's more than if they gave nothing.

It isn't really something at all. It's nothing. A million dollars is about the cost of setting up an aid center, without delivering any aid. Salaries, materials, gasoline, cost of power and water, and what's left?

Yes it does. Food and materials are never in short supply. It's all about distribution, trucking the food around, preparing it, etc, same with materials, plywood and insulation aren't that expensive, the tough part is organizing people and materials, providing temporary housing and taking care of emergency needs while making arrangements to rebuild.

Non-profits ALWAYS, without exception, have far more food and materials than they can distribute. And in all cases, they simply aren't interested in recruiting or hiring enough help to make good the difference because their actual motivations are as Azelma and I described.

Get real. You have all kinds of (quite expensive and time-consuming) leisure activities. You've made threads about your outrageous Xbox games collection and your boating/fishing/hangliding trips. You simply don't want to donate your free time, you've decided you want to spend it on your own indulgence.

That's not necessarily a problem, just don't BS about it.

I'd heard that electric workers who were non union were being turned away from working to help in new jersey, is this true?

My situation is so nice I am trying to change it. Hence my efforts with grad school etc. If I were on military welfare, I would have marginally more responsibilities but a much higher standard of living. I'd probably be more content with such a situation and less inclined to change it.

I certainly wouldn't have to be frugal with expenses great and small, buy almost everything secondhand and use it until it decays from sheer material fatigue, or do without things costing $10 I'd like to have.

And fwiw, whatever else may be said, I have firsthand experience with non-profits; quite a bit of it actually. Do you?

It's 12:36 on a Friday. What are you doing with your day?

Yeah! I mean, the bombs might not get you but you'd probably get run over by a train. 8)

Not working for a second day in a row because the hurricane made volume light so not enough work for everyone. And they said hurricanes were a bad thing.

Pretty much the same.

I am not entirely certain what FakeBlur is (actually, no one seems to be), but I learned how to root my phone and removed it. I suspect it's spyware of the sort used by the American gestapo to control phones during OWS.

My lunch is canned tom kha gai mixed with udon noodles, shiitake mushrooms and bamboo sprouts. I bought a lot of it it at the local china store for $2 a can and $1 a pack respectively. Total cost per serving is about $4. Provides a lot of cheap, dense calories and nutrients for a balanced vegetarian diet.

Do you have a Motorola smart phone? Is it something tied to the MotoBlur UI?

Yes, and no one seems to have any idea. A lot of people are asking the same question and those who know aren't talking. It has basically every permission available, including full control over sleep/wake/remote control/camera/GPS, but doesn't seem to do anything.

The phone works just fine without it.

BS. If that were so it wouldn't be on live or impossible to remove without rooting. What they really mean is that they intend to eventually integrate the functionality with the firmware so it can't be removed without taking the device apart.

Find me an impartial third party opinion and I'll be convinced. If it were for testing purposes, someone else in-the-know would have come to that conclusion already.

Wait, I forgot. Corporations never lie. If it's on the internet it must be true!
