I took Amtrak home from Maryland a few months back. My trip, which is chronicled on this site, took me on foot through several intersections at 1AM.
Whether something is to be expected or not is irrelevant. Driving is about reaction. That is why drunks and robots aren't allowed to drive. Legally or no, drunk = guilty.
My "mother" was Puerto Rican. She grew up in Queens and moved to Sacramento 30 years ago. She is sensitive to light and heat, so she wears a wide-brimmed coolie hat. People often talk dismissively around her because she is Hispanic (even though PR was conquered by the US in 1898 and its people have been recognized as citizens of the US ever since), then she turns around and cuts loose in her articulate, highly literate NY accent, which usually raises some eyebrows.
And I think Mono has a story involving a cop and being accused of being in this country illegally. As if that even matters when it comes to enforcing any law.
But, uh, yeah. Migrant status has nothing to do with it. 100% racism.
