If a drunk hits a drunk, the DUI offense becomes a felony, in most states, even if the drunk didn't have a right to be where he was.

Traffic rules are state specific. I am the least qualified person but I am fairly sure that in CA, drunk driving is automatic responsibility for malfeasance.

It's not negligence to hit someone crossing when they shouldn't. Besides, a finding of negligence requires its own separate inquiry. No prosecutor's office is going to follow that up considering how much effort it takes, especially when the should-be-petitioner is a deceased illegal addict.

LOL. Hardly! I mean, I definitely got some bruises, one fight I have pictures of (if you really need proof) because it was with my roommate when I was 17. The tl;dr version is he was a cokehead and decided he wanted to come after me one night, and really shouldn't have. I ended up with bruises, he ended up on the ground crying after the adrenaline wore off. My other three roommates were there as well.

He still tried to say it was a tie. Motherfucker pulled my hair, and I had JUST got done dying it. I was pissed. He fought like a girl. He ended up joining the military and was discharged because he's crazy.

i remember this one time we were standing around guarding an LZ that they were dropping fuel pallets onto.

most of the time, a parachute or two out of the 40-80 pallets that got dropped wouldn't open and the pallet would fall to the ground and all the drums would break open and spew MOGAS everywhere. well, this time like 6-7 parachutes all got tangled in each other and all those drums hit the ground and there was this massive lake of gasoline. there's not a lot you can do to guard that lake from the locals (who send their kids out with buckets to steal the fuel) so i was just standing there as like 10-15 kids were traipsing around this giant puddle of gas, probably about the size of half a football field. for some reason, one of the older kids decided to light the lake on fire with all the people in the middle. the entire thing instantly caught, and most of the kids had the sense to run towards the edge, but a couple kids were right in the middle and couldn't get out. i started towards the lake but stopped when i realized there was nothing i could do. i couldn't get anywhere near the blaze without being burned as well. it was so huge and hot. we were miles and miles from any type of civilization and hundreds of miles from any kind of firefighting support, and i could see the kids in the middle beginning to double over, on fire, anyway. i didn't know what else to do, i felt like turning around would be shameful or something, or i felt like if no one saw what happened then it would devalue the absurdity of it all, so i just stood there and watched. my best friend, a shrewd, battle-hardened veteran of 5 deployments -a true warrior, shook his head and said softly, "it's just ridiculous. i want to go home."

to this day, i still don't know what i should have done.

that was the day i lost faith in humanity.

I'm honestly more shocked and appalled that the Army apparently doesn't care about dumping vast amounts of gasoline on the open ground near Iraqi villages.

That, to me, is what makes me "lose faith in humanity" - not some dumb kid playing with matches.

well, technically it's the airforce's fault for not securing the pallets well enough and not packing the chutes together well enough, but there really isn't another way to get fuel out to the middle of nowhere. although, the environmental impact over there is pretty substantial. all the trash gets burned in these giant pits. tires, mattresses, spoiled food, body parts, medical waste. it all gets burned. you can't possibly imagine the amount of flies. when we had to drive to the "burn pit" as we called it, the closer you got you had to put on goggles and a scarf over your mouth and nose or flies would get in. there was also this area around one of the bases i was at that we called "disaster zone", which was a massive stack of thousands of used oil and gas drums that were all leaking into a recessed ditch. the ground was eternally muddy, even in the winter, the rest of the ground would freeze, but not this part because the ground was so intensely saturated.

i think that's enough stories for now. sorry to derail the thread.

I don't see how it's a derailment...but yeah, that would make me lose faith in humanity, not some kids being really stupid. That's definitely going to pollute those people's groundwater and cause them serious long-term problems such as cancer and birth defects.

Coming into someone else's country and mucking it up out of what amounts to laziness - that would make me lose faith in humanity. It's deeply disturbing, actually.
