What.
The.
Fuck.

WHY DON'T PEOPLE GOOGLE SHIT BEFORE SHARING? I sign on to facebook today, and I have to see this fuck with a beard claiming he's gonna give a random person $1 million dollars. The other day, I see people posting copyright bullshit that means absolutely nothing. Last month I have to see people posting these fucking pictures with crazy ass storm clouds and sharks in the streets for Sandy.

Don't people investigate anymore?

You know the worst part...I call people out for it. I post "FAKE" then a link to the article or whatever pointing it out. I guess that makes me an asshole because I get hate for it. I guess I'm arrogant for knowing how to use Google?

YOU ARE GETTING TROLLED STOP LOOKING LIKE A FUCKING IDIOT. This is what I want to tell people.

Maybe that's the problem. Maybe I look like a douche when I'm exposing others' stupidity. Maybe I just need to let it go.

I don't know why it bothers me so much. Maybe it's just that seeing how easily people are duped bothers me. It shows how lazy we've become as a culture.

Anyway, I don't know the point of this...what's wrong with people? Why do they share this crap?

P.S. Kay, I'm not calling you out at all (she shared the $1 million thing on fb) more people who just blindly believe stuff.

My sister bought a powerball ticket.

I bought a king sized candy bar, just to illustrate what she could have gotten with her 2 dollars. She's still waiting for her ticket to turn to chocolate.

I get more upset when people post stupid shit that a quick Snopes deems as false immediately and requires no further research that could seriously injure or kill someone. Like putting your pin in backwards to call the police if you are being robbed. All that is going to do is get you fucking killed.

When I googled the guy, the only thing it said was that he was claiming he won, and there was a winner in AZ still unaccounted for. It honestly affects no one at all to post it, so I really don't understand the big deal. But you are seriously raging over this. WHY?

And if you weren't calling me out, you wouldn't have mentioned me by name and say I posted it.

I should have explained further in the OP why I wasn't trying to include you in the rage.

I understood what you said, how you were just like "eh what the hell." You also said you were too lazy to dig deep to debunk it, so you were just like "meh"

Which is fine, since it seemed like you were acknowledging that it was probably a hoax, but were sharing it just in case.

I'm raging about people who didn't even go to that critical thinking step...they just blindly posted it saying "oooo I hope I win" or "this is awesome, congrats to this guy, how generous!"

Perhaps it was because it came on the heels of the idiotic copyright thing...honestly I'm not sure. Perhaps the idiocy of the masses is getting to me.

I'm just angry that some troll posted something completely fake and got 500k+ people to share it. I'm angry that people post it without even questioning its authenticity. I'm angry that people are so gullible when it comes to get rich quick schemes. Sure, maybe this was harmless (though you can see all the people's names who shared it, could be used by someone idk)....but the principal is there. Some guy photoshops something, and everyone thinks it's valid.

If someone was forwarding me those "Bill Gates is Giving Away his Fortune" chain emails, I'd have the same visceral reaction.

Maybe I'm just pissed I had to see his stupid mug all over my wall and realize how many people will share literally anything.

The only thing I've used Facebook for in the past few months is a group convo with my siblings discussing Christmas present ideas for our parents.

Yeah, jerk.

If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little.

Also, as much as I have to say I love you both, the improbability of this duel has me a bit amused. It's like watching a mud wrestling contest between Bill Gates and Angela Merkel.

Probably the same reason that ~45% of the country believes that the second coming of jesus christ will be before 2050.

Every generation believes they're living in the 'end times,' Mayo. That's nothing new. Equally unoriginal is the need people feel that the world be a wondrous place full of mystery and majesty. There is an ingrained racial/cultural belief in a 'Balm of Gilead,' and of more advanced civilizations who have come before us and disappeared--and whose lost treasures will bring wealth and wisdom. None of this is new. Belief in these things allow most people to function without going insane. The improbable hope sustains them. Your morality isn't likely to be vindicated by the coming of your God, you're not going to receive a miracle drug that cures all your ills and lifts you up to a new state of being, and we're not going to find cold fusion or the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything in Atlantis even if we do ever find it. It's the human condition. This is nothing new.

1) You know nothing of history
2) This is completely not true
