It's common for hunters to carry a candy bar in their pockets as a last ditch for quick food in the event of getting lost.

It's recommended that you instead carry dog food. Unlike a candy bar, you won't have to worry about wanting to eat it before you need it. But just like a candy bar, dog food is edible.

To expound on that fun fact, dog food in Canada is held to the same standards as human food. My boss recommends Orijen (thanks google for letting me know it wasn't Origin).
