Quote:
Eighteen children were killed on Friday morning in a shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., about 65 miles northeast of New York City, according to a person who had been briefed on the shooting. Another law enforcement official said preliminary reports suggested there could be as many as 20 fatalities.

Seriously, what the fuck society. What. the. fuck.

Edit:

ABC is saying 27 dead...

I've found that I was much happier when I didn't pay attention to the news.

Ignorance is bliss, indeed.

That would explain why so many conservatives oppose national standardized gun policy.

You can't legislate people to not be evil.

All the legislation in the country hasn't stopped the deluge of illegal drugs into this country.

The people that would follow gun control laws wouldn't walk into a school and shoot up the place, either.

I'm not saying there shouldn't be any gun regulation. I'm saying that even if you made all guns illegal, you wouldn't make all guns cease existing.

I'm not going to participate in the upcoming gun control arguments any more than I just did. It won't go anywhere, and no one will change their mind on their current stances anyway.

The mass murder of children is a crime in its own category. It is a stereotyped and surprisingly common behavior ultimately caused by extreme depression. Humans (and some other advanced animals that are hard to breed in captivity, such as rhinos) are evolutionarily programmed to seek to destroy their own children (and those of others) when certain criteria are met.

It can be very hard to examine such a terrible crime objectively, but what we are really looking at is a pathology caused by society, not mere villainy.

Guns, as Tuhl said, are the ultimate enabler. But the problem is more profound than the abundance of guns - the real problem is that our society is so deeply troubled that it drives some people to do such things.

Interestingly, this type of crime is much more common in China, for the reason that contemporary Chinese society has the same problems ours does to a far, far greater extent.

give these people a split second to mourn before you piss on this day with your gun arguments.

I would argue that discussing how to avert such a tragedy in the future is the greater homage to their loss. What is really at work is that some people don't like to think that their political views directly result in innocent children getting killed.

Don't blame others for your stubbornness. Your views are wrong, and that's no one's fault but your own.

when my best friend was shot in a crowded Tikrit street, my squad leader ran up and told me i should have moved around the other side of the Humvee to draw fire, which probably would have saved his life.

it took three people to pry my hands from around his neck.

That has absolutely nothing to do with this topic. Your experiences in the Iraq War are not license to ignore the consequences of what you or anyone else chooses to believe.

That said, the very people who disdain gun control arguments will no doubt just as soon ignore my sociological take on the tragedy.

Just sayin. People deserve a break before you assault them with everything they could have done differently.

Who is Adam Lanza?

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2 ... lanza.html

Quote:
Newtown Patch reports that Ryan Lanza (Adam's brother) told a close friend that he thinks his developmentally disabled brother committed the crime. ABC News reports that Ryan Lanza “told authorities that his younger brother is autistic, or has Asperger syndrome and a ‘personality disorder.’ Neighbors have described him as “odd” and said he behaves as if he has an obsessive-compulsive disorder.

ITT: Insane person.

Did everyone forget about Columbine, Virginia Tech, Aurora and whenever else someone went crazy just because.

It was knives, machetes and swords before guns.

If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little.

There is no discussion to "put off for now so people can grieve." If you support guns, you're just supporting the wrong side. It's well within your rights, of course, but just know you are stupid and feel like a stupid person.
