I am beginning to rethink my reply to whatever I have right now. Combination cold/flu/massive headache/general crud. I feel like shit and should really be asleep so that may be what I do next.

I've had some pretty bad illnesses over the years. I went to Russia as an exchange student when I was in 8th grade. Within a few days of returning to the US I was hospitalized with Mono. I was out of school for nearly 6 months.

I went to Nicaragua in 2004. Spent 4 days in bed (I use this term VERY loosely) at a US compound, unable to do much but be horrendously sick.

Last year I had the flu followed by pneumonia. I lost 60 lbs (18 in the first few days) I wished I would just die. I hurt everywhere.

I nearly died during childbirth, but the exact cause was never determined...

Maybe you shouldn't travel.

I never get life-threateningly ill, but I think I would prefer being sick enough to lay in bed for days eating soup to the just sick enough for it to be an inconvenience and make everything feel difficult that I do get on rare occasions.

Impetigo, wasn't deadly or harmful, just annoying, Doc said it was a cold sore, when it continued to spread, same thing, when half my face was full of sores, (spread quite quickly for me), went to a dermatologist said it was Impetigo, got it away.

When I was two—and I remember this distinctly—I was hit with what I thought at the time was merely a severe cold: mucus running down my face; a sore, dry, cracked throat; and general lethargy. But within two or three days it peaked, leaving me bedridden. I couldn't move, I couldn't talk, I couldn't see, I couldn't hear, and I had a headache that would rape, kill, and further rape a rhinoceros. (I've since pieced together the assumption that the latter, at least, was a days-long migraine, which my parents at the time didn't bother trying to diagnose.) One of my earliest coherent memories involves my trying in illness to eat buttered ziti—something that, even when hand-fed, I couldn't quite get down the hatch.

To this day, I have no idea what that illness was, though I've recovered fully and haven't suffered anything like it since. I'd like to think (however grimly) that it was meningitis, though, as I've said, my parents never bothered to pursue it further—certainly an awful display of parenting, but it's not as if the episode has recurred.

I'm on the upswing of something nasty.

Spent last couple nights coughing something awful and going back and forth from shivering awake and sweating awake.

It's been the first time, that I can recall, it has been more than a slight inconvenience sickness.

My kids are sick, snowed in here from Christmas Day which I had them for. My ex is now snowed in here as well out of concern for her traveling the 30 minute drive back home with my kids. We're being civil, but I'm worried about the kids getting the wrong idea. Roads are really bad though.
