I have wanted one for a long time, and I've hit a point where I no longer see the point in finding reasons not to do things I want. I go look at it tomorrow, and I'm taking a 'bike guy' with me. It's a fixer-upper, but having grown up stripping cars, I don't see any issues repairing mechanical things. That's one of the reasons I've been semi-absent of late. Just thought I'd let you know.

Pics of pre/post fixing up.

If you don't wear a helmet, I will personally come beat you around the head with a crowbar. Just saying. Completely serious and you know it.

Gratified you don't find our company wholly offensive. =D

So, what you are saying is...you are now officially middle-aged. I second Kay, except, I honestly think motorcycles are a bad idea period. A family friend got one for his mid-life crisis and got thrown over the handlebars. He lost about 30 IQ points in an instant. Very sad.

I don't like them either. I've been in clinicals long enough to have seen some truly gnarly results of bike accidents. I also sat with my mom all throughout finals week, all night every night, at the hospital last month. She still has a pretty big bump on her head and terrible vertigo that she finally got fed up with and got some meds for. Broke her foot in 4 places, her pelvis in 3, and a bunch of ribs. Got T-boned by a car doing at least 50. Only reason she's here is because she was wearing a full-face helmet. They're pricey, but Snell approved helmets are the most rigorously safety tested. Make sure you know what you're getting - helmets are highly variable. We learned the hard way in her first accident - the thing tore right up. I'm pretty sure that first accident permanently damaged her memory, too.

But I'm not gonna tell you what to do, cause some people really love em. For me, the risks outweigh the benefits. But for you and for your kiddo, please be as safe as possible about it. If you haven't taken motorcycle courses - for the love of God, please do.

The throttle vibrations get women wet.

Just a thought.

When I was on vacation in the Caribbean we decided it would be a good idea to rent scooters to travel to the beach. I rented the scooter and within 10 seconds crashed into a wall 5 feet from where we started. 300$ for repair of the vehicle later I have vowed not to ride 2 wheeled vehicles :(

He's already got kids, and I don't want any.

I should buy a motorcycle.

My dad had a metal pole in his leg for 20 years to support the bone there as a result of a motorcycle accident when he was in his early 20s (a truck cut him off).

His cousin was killed in a motorcycle accident, though he was doing tons of cocaine at the time. Went through a storefront window.

I uh, I don't ever want to be on a motorcycle.

I hadn't thought it might be a middle-age thing...then again, I'm probably already "one of those guys" since I've stopped dating women my own age in favor of the ones who aren't (as) screwed up yet. Might explain why all the 'new' cars I've been looking at to replace mine are convertibles (and has nothing to do with having owned and loved having one when I lived in FL). It might also explain the beer brewing, painting, and dieting.

I guess I missed it because one (maybe more) of my roommates is doing the same thing. I've been living with the same bunch of guys on-and-off since college, in between stints of living with my (now ex) g/f, and they're all at least 10 years younger than I am. I lack perspective. I keep forgetting how I old I am because everyone I do things with is 10-15 years younger than I am.

I will definitely be wearing a helmet, Kay, and a thick jacket, gloves, and maybe even chaps. I'm going to take a riding class when I'm sure I can get the bike road worthy. IF (and that is a VERY BIG IF) I let CJ ride with me, I will be getting a sidecar. My goon of a son is too much of a spaz to have him riding behind anyone. He's already 5'10" and 193 lbs. at age 13, and since he got the same dense muscle tissue I have, he's an ox. I really need to get back in shape so I can beat his ass if he needs it. Thank God he got my stupid instead of his mother's stupid.

Anyway, this is actually driven more by finances than by desperate attempts to cling to my youth (I would never be able to relive those kinds of highlights anyway, I was legitimately the world's greatest super-hero). If it weren't for the period of unemployment I went through, I'd probably already have a bike.

Jubber
