I would take you up on the offer to hit up your uncle, Cally, but my best fried from high school is semi-famous in the motorcycle community. He wrote a book on the Soviet-era Russian military bikes (now being sold in the US under the name URAL). He stopped in tonight because he was coming back from Harrisburg, PA on his way back to NC, and couldn't believe I got it for only $700.

I need to get all the parts and stuff I need to fix it gathered up and take some time off from work to get it road ready.

Jubber

Soviet military hardware is amazing. Built with a completely different design philosophy from American gear.

Quote:
U.S. ARMY EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE PROTOCOL (TOP SECRET - SIGMA SIGMA GETA JETA CLEARANCE ONLY)

1. Is the device functioning normally?
2. Verify that the device is plugged in.
3. Verify that all connections are secure.
4. Refer to service documentation for maintenance history.
5. Disassemble device utilizing proprietary tool kit (REORDER: EAGLE-1943-ALLAMERICAN-GG)
6. Replace expendable components, ordering components as necessary.
7. Utilizing separately packaged cleaning kit (REORDER: US-1776-DC-AOK) carefully clean all contacts.
8. Reassemble device.
9. Triple-test device.
10. Return device to responsible contractor for service or replacement.

Quote:
RED ARMY EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE PROTOCOL (SCHEDULE DISAPPEARING WITH COMMISSAR)

1. Thing work?
2. Bang thing on rock. No rock? Use ground or back of comrade.
3. Step 1.

A lot of old Soviet-era Russian gear was based on plans stolen from other countries. The bike my high school buddy wrote the book on is basically an exact duplicate of a BMW model...he told me once that some of the parts are interchangeable with that particular bike. They saved loads of money on R+D.

The reverse is also true - the Soyuz and Scud systems, for example, were copied by many powers. The Soviets had their fair share of original design successes. The best, imo, was the Hind - the adorably hideous flying tank.

Come to think of it, now that's something that would be cool to own.

I hate your bike, sorry. 1/10 would spokejam.

It's one of those inbred monstrosities sitting between a dirt bike and a hog.

There doesn't seem to be anything even remotely off-roady about it, so I'm not sure what you mean. It's just a very basic Japanese cruiser.

If you're going to be on the road, you should be on something that's longer and lower to the ground. Sitting on those bikes, and sitting on a dirt bike, puts you in the same upright position with your feet below you. They are also both shorter in length and higher seated.

If you're going to be on a filthy Japanese bike, it should be a crotchrocket.

imho

Now that I am no longer capable of any form of flight or levitation, I prefer my feet to be underneath me. This is definitely a starter bike, I'm not getting anything fancier than this until I've ridden this for a while and I'm comfortable with it. Then I might think about a chopper.

I think I told you guys about the time I took CJ to the park and some little kid ran up and asked me if I was Iron Man.

CJ, of course, ruined it for me by reminding me that I'm too fat to be Iron Man.

I should take a picture while before I get discouraged at this recent attempt at facial hair. I don't do a lot of pictures.

I need to order my bike parts and take some time off from work to work on it.

I'm also thinking that I need a boat...to live on, which is completely retarded considering where I live.
