The sooner that you realize that it's all corrupt and pointless the better off you'll be. Otherwise you could end up raging on TV like that doofus.

This was a few years ago...I think he actually realized this fact.

He quit a lucrative career as a pundit to start an organic farm. Go figure.

There's always the other option.

There are no options. That's the point.

Ohio senators have cleared a bill that would set new requirements for third parties to appear on ballots in the swing state.

Representatives of the Green and Libertarian parties oppose the measure, which passed on a 22-11 vote Tuesday. It now goes to the House.

The American Civil Liberties Union told lawmakers that the proposals’ petition requirements are onerous for third parties. Plus, the legal organization says the changes come too close to Ohio’s 2014 statewide elections.

The whole talking point is "IF OBAMACARE IS SO GOOD THEN WHY IS CONGRESS EXEMPT FROM IT???", which was just proven to be pure bullshit. Congrats on missing the point of your own regurgitated talking point entirely.

If they're given a subsidy no one else would be given despite not qualifying for it because of their income (which for most members of congress is far in excess of anything that would qualify for a subsidy under the ACA) then they aren't living under the law the same as everyone else. If you don't call that an exemption, then fine, but that's what it amounts to regardless of what label you want to slap on it.

Not surprising...and you don't have to look any farther than my own state to see what the two-party monopoly gets you. Our two major party candidates seem to be running a race of "I am at least as awful as my opponent if not worse." It's like a game of "Which of these guys would you rather have rape your mother." There's a third-party (libertarian) candidate here who is actually sane (as unlikely as that sounds) and reasonable, but doesn't have snowball's chance in hell even though the democrat and republican could both literally come under both state and federal indictment for a whole variety of shenanigans. Unfortunately, no one will consider voting for the Sarvis because they're afraid the "wrong" guy will win, which is fucked up because both the democrat and the republican are the "wrong" guy.

We can hope, but with the circus leaving town, what's going to distract everyone from the problems with implementation of the exchanges? This was a missed chance to fix a lot of things that were broken, and as much as I'd love to blame Senator Reid and President Obama for that, neither side was going to do what needed to be done because it would be seen as some sort of victory for the other party.

I agree, let's just start making concessions while we're teetering on the brink of an international economic collapse. China's already banging the drum of removing the dollar's status of being the one international currency. How do you think that would've played out if the US defaulted on its loans for the first time in history because of an incredibly vocal minority?

Also, a popular website is having trouble keeping up with the initial bandwidth of thousands of people trying to access it. Its not like you would have any personal experience with that, would you? We're not even talking about the (red) states whos governors and state legislatures are doing everything in their power to make Obamacare fail, by the way. Deliberately sabotaging a program and then using said program as an example on why government doesn't work is a hallmark of the conservative mindset.

The initial hiccups were a problem, yeah, but the representatives you agree with decided to try and hold a gun to the government's head instead of doing something people would actually view as smart. Then again, "smart" is a rare word in a coalition of snake-handlers, gay-bashers, bigots, and anti-intellectuals.

The "default" scenario never would have played out even with no raise in the debt ceiling. The treasury takes in enough money every month to cover the service on the debt and then some. There would have been a lot more political theater like the spending money to barricade open-air parks in the form of such things as threatening not to send out Social Security checks, but there would have been no default.

Funny, I believe I said that I didn't think it fair to judge the program's success at this point exactly because I know how the first few days/weeks of a new launch generally work. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, you and I aren't representative of the general public, and not even of all the people who have ever used an online service who remain completely surprised when a new, untested system gets its ass handed to it by the flood of users on launch day. You can bitch about "red staters" all you want, but I don't know what's so surprising about a bunch of people who didn't want anything to do with a program doing everything they possible can to avoid it, or why something so easily predicted could be so infuriating. It's like you're sticking a gun in someone's face and demanding they stick a dildo in their ass, then getting pissed off when they don't smile while they do it.

Oh, and following the logic so far in this thread: they won their elections, get fucked. :P

It wouldn't have mattered if every republican in congress went on TV and said, "You know, we're going to try to make this work," then came up with a bill that addressed all the problems and actually made the program work. President Obama still would have said, "this is extortion, and I shouldn't have to negotiate," rather than give the republicans a 'victory.'

Not that anyone would be stupid enough to put their fingerprints on this unpopular soon to be disaster, but even if they were, they still would have been shot down, just like they were over holding congress to the same standards as the rest of America and granting everyone the same special favors reserved for some people's special little snowflakes.

I never tire of the "you don't agree with me so obviously you're all terrible people." You're like a fucking child telling someone they're a meany-poo-poo-face.

LOL, congrats on beating the meanies, enjoy your prizes and gift basket.

my favorite part thus far

Quote:
A House stenographer and well-known employee calmly took to a microphone and began screaming.

"Do not be deceived. God shall not be mocked. A House divided cannot stand," she said, according to a House GOP aide. After a few seconds, she was escorted out by the Sergeant-at-Arms, but an audio recording by Todd Zwillich of Public Radio International captured the rest of her rant.

"He will not be mocked, He will not be mocked, (don't touch me) He will not be mocked. The greatest deception here, is that this is not one nation under God. It never was. Had it been... it would not have been... No. it would not have been... the Constitution would not have been written by Free Masons... and go against God. You cannot serve two masters. You cannot serve two masters. Praise be to God, Lord Jesus Christ."

House members and aides were surprised and unsettled by the scene.

"I don't know, she just snapped," said a GOP aide.

I mean Jubber, you do realize that all the GOP did was strengthen the Democrats (and Obama's) position right? Everyone knew it wasn't going to work, but Boner (that's his name right? ;) ) and his buddies thought they could win by holding a gun to the head of the government and, to a certain extent, world.

And for what...because of Obamacare? Really?

The debt ceiling...budget negotiations...that's a big deal. Obamacare? No, the GOP just doesn't want healthcare paying for birth control for sluts or whatever. It's beyond asinine.

The Republican party is so fractured it's ridiculous. Instead of throwing temper tantrums and trying to negotiate on things that have already been negotiated on (again: the Obamacare bill itself was bastardized repeatedly before it ever was voted in), they want to defund the whole thing and shut the government down with fiscal crisis looming.

In any case, the dems want to just keep kicking the can down the street, and the republicans want to hurl us into the sun. Either option is idiotic.
