It's not so much the words as the meanings people assign to them. One my old G/Fs had a lot of gay friends, and they were not only very amusing, they called each other fags all the time. I doubt the word would bother people like them, but if you're someone who despises the word and hates to hear it used...well, that's a whole different ladle of (man) gravy right there.

Whenever someone is complaining about something that is so commonplace that they should be used to it, regardless of how dumb/bad it is, I like to wait for them to finish and then say, "That's why no one likes white people." The black guys at work seem to think that's the funniest thing anyone's ever said. They'd understand if they knew about my addiction to Popeye's.

I think maybe some people are missing my point.
It does not matter if YOU think the word is legit, or if it's "just words", or if it's common place to say things like that now a days. That is YOUR opinion. YOU are not offended by it.

Does that meanthat everyone has to be cool with it's use? Of course not. That would be foolish to think.

The fact is that if these forums are to be welcoming to everyone and get as near to 100% BH wow player activity...a pipedream of course but activity and a sense of community is the goal of all forums...then you need to take into account stuff that might offend people.

Using the word "faggot" as a title attached to every post that a handful of people make WILL offend some people. So right there you are cutting out a certain amount of patronage to the forums. Where as if you changed it to something nonoffensive, you would have the patronage of those who were here originally, as well as those who were offended by the original title.

As it currently stands, we are using a title that is offensive to a certain percentage of the population...when there is really no reason to. The only thing that serves to do...is offend people.

Also, I just talked to Muerte. He said "A coworker and friend of mine, who is gay, works two feet away from my desk and is often coming over to ask questions about work. How would he feel if he came over to the desk to ask me something and saw that on the screen". A completely valid point and goes to what I was saying earlier. The only purpose the title serves, is to offend people...where as something like...I don't know..."moderator" offends no one.

I have denied applications to the guild on the spot for using "faggot" or the N-word (and yes we did get an application in with that in there..."I would have four piece t10 right now if it were for some N@#$er stealing it from me"). I have kicked people out of vent and out of raids for repeat offenses of using that.

If you guys want to keep it, that is fine. It is your choice. Those that are offended by it with simply not join the forum. But I would be incredibly hypocritical if I posted here with that tag. If there is a way to change just my title that would be great, if not, then please feel free to demote me to "New Guy" or whatever it is that the general community posts as.
