So I suppose that this was inevitable. Currently, any and all free speech is fair game on this board, including hate speech. Even the Mods are currently called "Faggots". This poll is to bring up 2 issues: whether or not the title of mods as "Faggots" is ok or not and as to the question of hate speech on this board.

When I say "filter" slurs, I mean that they will be changed like nigger is currently. People who actively try to dodge these filters in particular will be subject to moderation.

This poll will close in 96 hours, so please vote!

I was writing this when Henq's thread got locked.

I don't mind if the mods group was changed. I would mind if we were censored though.

I find the best way to embrace our differences is to no holds barred laugh at them.

Not everybody views words the same either. If you called someone a Fag in Britain you'd get a weird look as you just called someone a cigarette.

Should Spanish speakers stop using the Spanish word for black (negro) because some black guys don't like it?

Which, then, should we stop saying something because someone is offended? We either have to cater to everyone, or to noone, otherwise we're being unfair to someone.

"Bloody" used to be considered a word that was so bad, you could be punished (by authorities) for saying it. You couldn't even describe a horrific murder scene as a "bloody mess"!

If we catered to everyone, we might have to stop using words like "bloody". Then how will we describe the heavy flows of women?

But, I can agree with changing the mod group name, solely because it's unprofessional.

I vote it be renamed "Princes of the Universe".

I'm going to ask two things:
1) If your reasoning hasn't been posted by others, please contribute as to why you hold your position. This makes for a better discussion on the issue.

2) If the final vote says that we change mod names, we'll argue about that later, as I can see this thread quickly devolving into what we should call the mods.

My vote is obvious here but I just wanted to reiterate that I am NOT in favor of censoring posts that people make. Everyone should be able to post as they wish. I am a fan of free speech.

I was just saying that I do not want my status/role-on-the-forum/title to associate me as a person, and as a player in the game, with something that I do not condone or subscribe to (in this case, homophobic slurs).

I am not even against the rest of the mods using it if they like.
If you want your name/handle to be associated with stuff like that, absolutely fine with me, it's a free country.

I feel that this issue was inevitable, I just figured that we might as well nip it as soon as it first came up as opposed to later. Drop me a tell on alliance-side or I'll hop on my level 1 and we'll talk specifics.

I completely agree with Henq, and since you guys seem to be hashing it out either atm, or sometime later today I'm assuming it's going to be 'fixed'?

Honestly, I think for simplicity's sake it'd be better to just have them listed as moderator or something, I didn't even know henq/tul were mods till the other thread was made despite seeing them make various posts.

Just my two cents.

As much as I like cursing, the filters are pretty hilarious.

And if you ever change the mod title to anything but Faggots I will hate you forever. It's a piece of history.

This is my feeling on the subject. For those of you that don't know, people have called each other faggots on this board for years. I could care less about the filters, but I'm very passionate about calling mods (or at the very least, myself) a faggot.

Also, it isn't confusing to tell who are mods. On the board index it says Moderated by "the Faggots". Common sense dictates that the people with the title of "faggot" also belong to this group.

I don't get how people can vote to keep slurs but want to change the moderator title. Just wondering: If someone doesn't like being in a group called 'The Faggots', but supports other people using slurs like, 'Faggot', would they be offended if someone called them a 'Faggot' and, as a moderator, would they take action against the person using the slur?

Honestly, I vote to keep the slurs so I know who to not invite to raids and such. If people WANT to talk that way, then they are welcome to. If this board is about being open and able to discuss anything without fear of censoring by "big brother", then it would be foolish to take away the right to say whatever.

I cannot control the ignorance of other people, not in real life and not in game, nor would I want to, honestly. Someone who has that mindset will find themselves with more than enough roadblocks in life without me having to scold them or mayo filtering every word from a realm forum.

Taking a personal vendetta to censor someone for using a slur like that just because I (or whoever) am a moderator would be in direct contradiction to the rules mayo laid out. You can call me whatever you want, does not effect me in the slightest. I choose not to use those slurs, and I choose not to have myself "autobranded" with that tag in my profile. Those are things that I can control

In the interests of upholding the basic principles set down by the creation of FUBU, I don't think any words should auto-filter (though we could rotate some for the sake of hilarity, I am fond of Distinguished Nigerian Gentleman and Meth, not even once), but at the same time I realize Henq's position as the last bastion of respectability (I've got it too, but it's undeserved and I'm not nearly as visible a public figure since I don't run PuGs) and as such see why he might not want to be associated with as heavy a title as "Faggot."

I'll keep mine, unless we need to change them all for the sake of continuity.

Yeah it's really not about me thinking everyone needs to change.
It's just mine. And if that means I need to step out of the moderator privilege so the forums maintain that beginning ideology then that is completely fine with me. No problem at all and no grudges over it.

New mod rank named "Trick Daddy" for Henq and only Henq, imo.
