This is what I decided to edit out. It's not really breaking rules, but it could be flagged as "discussing moderation" or just the general trolling ban, and I'd rather not provoke idiots with itchy trigger fingers.

This isn't about morals, you and the other posters agreed to a set of rules and standards. Losing your posting privleges because you broke those rules is on you, not me, and not the mods.
This is only true to an extent. The habit of auto-da-fé is recent practice, and we all know it. Certain regular trolls take advantage of it to get threads nuked and people they dislike perma'd. I fully recognize that the guidelines are airtight in that they let the moderators do pretty much whatever they want to whoever they want, but doing so completely negates the notion of a "forum" in the first place.
I contend that early (circa 2005) forum policing was what should have been kept. Total spammers got what was coming to them. Blues made appearances and problem posts were surgically removed rather than causing collateral damage to all the posts around them. People who broke enough rules often enough and were of no use whatsoever to the community (Sinsear) got banned after awhile, even if it took a few weeks and some grievous breaches of posting rules.
But I'll take the enjoyment that laxity brings over a police state. Enjoy your wasteland.
