We already have a pretty decent amount of people posting here, but I've always wanted to have more people that aren't the forum regulars post here (not to mention I want to give the mods something to actually do).

Posting the site on the realm boards (thanks to Muerte) is a ban. Any ideas as to how we could expand the community a bit?

Trade. Or just telling people we like individually.

Ok so I had a stupid long post, I just deleted all of it and will make it less of a clusterfuck.

1. Maybe if we didn't have "bad" words in our titles and such, we could post links on the forums without getting banned. I'm sorry, I forgot about the whole reason we're here.

2. Pick up people who might be excellent at advertising. Dare I say, Industria maybe? Slide some coin across her palm/give her a food thread, give her a link to paste and tell her to start talking about it in trade chat in lieu of the other things she always starts chatting up with. You have the added bonus of her having a vajayjay which would probably reel a few in.

3. But yeah, what Tuhl said. Trade Chat, kinda see #2. People will become curious and check it out if they see it enough or see people talking about it (or how awesome it is).

4. The board should be viewable to guests if it isn't already. If it's not, they're going to go... what the fuck? Bucketguild? This is a guild forum... guild trying to recruit me...

5. A URL that denoted what the forum was used for would be very helpful.

6. Penis

7. Did I mention penis?

8. I am proactive in promoting bands I am a fan of. Those on this board should take some initiative to spread the word. Do not discriminate with whom you promote the site to, only propagate how awesome it is.

Word of mouth is the only viable option imo. If forum posting can get u banned, some asshat with a score to settle could possibly report you and get an action against ur account.

I would try maybe making it ur comment in ventrilo, and people u group with just mention it to them.

That's my idea.

The board is public. The FUBU sticky bitches about the Blizz mods and every thread is chock full of swearing. Even if we eliminated the "faggot" title (which will never happen since we voted against such a motion), it would only take an extra 20 seconds of reading for people to find more shit that falls against the ToS.

Yeah, I think spamming trade and telling friends is the only way. If we have people doing it both horde, and alliance side it could work.

As for advertising on the official forums. Would it work if we didn't direct them to the exact FUBU forum, but the general <I Has a Bucket> forum?

What I mean is, instead of linking: http://bucketguild.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=21 , which has the offensive topics cursing and such.

We post links to http://bucketguild.com/phpbb2/index.php

Hmmm...maybe we could make an official BH post disguised as a guild recruitment post that....oo wait....yeah that will earn a perma ban.

One thing that would need to be considered is who you are actually trying to get to come here. Granted, allowing any of the fodder that resides in /2 would certainly give the moderators something to do. It would, however, created a lot of unnecessary tensions and probably create a lot more meta drama as to what/who is and is not allowed. All of this does create more conversation since not only will there be threads created, there will also be threads about threads created, so the upside to this would be that there will be more traffic here and thus more conversation.
With that being the upside, the downside to advertising in /2 is the same as the upside: you'll still be getting people from /2. What my suggestion would be is to really think about not just specific people you want here, but what kind of people. Do you want some of the best PvE people here? Then have their guilds advertise in their GMotD or in /g spam. Do you want some of the best PvP people here? Same thing but in their respective guilds.
The talent-scout approach I think is also an effective way to approach this situation, too since you'll be pooling only the best of the best and pretty much guaranteeing that everyone who is around you is someone that you actually wanted. This point I feel is also something that was apart of why the FUBU project happened in the first place since there were plenty of lv1 alts that no one wanted to listen to cry anymore.
In conclusion, I think the current approach is probably the best one, however, broadening your scopes just a little bit might allow for you to get more people. If one thing were to be done that is not recruitment, it should be asking people who were invited but have declined to join this community and find out what about this was unappealing to them and see if it is something you can reasonably fix.

I don't see the viablity of spamming /2 with FUBU if we want to keep the community even somewhat decent. The people that that will attract will be the ones that were probably rightfully banned from the forums for being dipshits. Granted, there's definitely the possibility that we'll lose some potential quality people by avoiding that approach, but it's worth it in the long run, imho.

We should go with what Rikki suggested though - identify guilds with general communities that would benefit the community here, and target recruit them.

Yeah, after reading your guys' points. Spamming /2 seems like a much less effective thing.

We want people here who will not just be moronic trolls to annoy mods.

We all have at least two friends who aren't on the FUBU boards yet.

I'd say, let's each make it our mission to recruit two QUALITY posters. And then they recruit two more. Etc.
