So I'm perusing Yahoo!, and reading some articles, and come across this:

http://finance.yahoo.com/college-education/article/109701/placing-the-blame-as-students-are-buried-in-debt?mod=edu-collegeprep

So I'm reading this and I'm thinking, "Hey, poor kid, that's just too bad. Maybe she can use her degree to get a job that will allow her to pay this back if she can at least get the interest deferred or something." Then the articles states that all that money bought her degree "an interdisciplinary degree in religious and women's studies."

If you're so stupid that you borrow enough money to run up a nearly $100,000 tab, and you waste that money, time, and effort to get "an interdisciplinary degree in religious and women's studies," you probably deserve to be the completely unemployable, up to your eyeballs in debt sorry burden on your mother that this idiot has turned out to be.

Seriously...should anyone who is that stupid even be let into a college, let alone lent money for the endeavor?

Your Pal,
Jubber

It's not the degree that matters, unless you want to work in a certain field that has a certain skillset i.e. engineering, but the networking you do

True story: One of the women studies books is/was called "Cunt". "They" were taking the word back.

When I worked at the college bookstore we had a good time with it. "Where'd you put the cunt?" "I saw a box full of cunt around the corner" "Does this cunt smell funny" ect

Jubbergun is an anti-intellectual right-wing hatemonger.

...wait, I'm actually with him on this one...

wtf

Yeah that's bullshit, these people get worthless degrees in political bs then wonder why no one has a use for them. No sympathy.

Also I like how all these feminists with penis envy - women who talk about sexism but go through life obsessed with their own gender like no healthy man or woman - always stand there with their hands on their hips because they totally have to let you know they aren't insecure or dominated by their gender.

Since she's got a vagina she can work the corner.

$300.00 per hour for sexy time. That's 333 1/3rds sex acts.

Assume 8 "dates" a week. One per weekday and three on Saturday. That's 41 and 2/3rds weeks!

So in theory she could be debt free in nearly 11 months assuming no STD's.

Curse you non-americans and the non-outrageous price you get to pay for your education.

GG Whitman/Willamette for costing over 40k a year and not giving me more than 6k in scholarships. ilu2.

Here's what changed about college.

Historically, college was where

1.) the upper-class/rich people went to get a liberal arts/humanities education (read books, etc)
2.) Professionals went to study - (Doctors, Lawyers, etc)

People in 1.) would then graduate and go work for their Daddy's business or whatever. Most people in the middle/lower class would just work manual labor jobs after graduating high school etc (IE - steel workers, auto workers, etc.)

However, society has switched to technology/service-based labor. It's assumed that you pretty much NEED a college education if you want to get a good job nowadays. The problem is, many people are still in that, "oh you should go to college to expand your mind...learn about humanities and stuff" mode of thinking.

Parents just aren't forcing their kids to get useful degrees enough. For example...I love music, but that degree is pretty useless...so my parents forced me to get a business degree. Well, now I have a job and am not poor...so yeah that worked out.

My sister got an english degree, but it was only because she HAD to go to law school afterwards.

When I worked at a movie theatre, I worked with a bunch of people who had Film Studies degrees and a shit load of debt. People just don't think.

"All you need is a piece of paper"

Thats all I keep hearing.

My brother happened to start college long after we move to Georgia and used the Hope scholarship and a partial baseball scholarship to get an engineering degree from Georgia Southern. When I moved here I had to wait a year to get in state tuition and never really got off to a good start with college because real life got in the way. My brother will tell you I am much smarter than him, but while he is a manager for TVA, I am a network tech for a medium sized utility company. I make decent money but he of course is single, with no kids, and about to be around 90k a year. Yes I do want to kill him sometimes.

This got me thinking whether you actually need the piece of paper, so here is a small example of my company.

Of the seven network techs, one has a degree in pc repair from a tech school, but he was not actually hired as an IT guy, he was hired at a water plant and moved to IT. One guy has a degree in music education, our lone female tech has a degree in business admin, two of us are partially through school, and two were in the US Navy, but one was actually trained for IT in the navy.

Of our leadership, my boss has a degree in business, our assistant vp has degree in theology, our vp has a degree in engineering.

Here are some of the oddballs. Our vp of human resources has a degree in interior design, marketing vp has a choral arts degree of some sort, several other vps and managers have degrees in something completely unrelated to the field they are in, but they have been here forever so they want their underlings to have degrees in that field so at least someoen knows what they are doing.

What I love about the article is that this girl is in debt for what my house cost and she cant get a job to save her life. If she were to simply go after a job she could get some of that education would come in handy. The basics are required for degree programs for a reason. But dont cry to me that you spent the equivelent of my mortgage on an education and you cannot get a job. Get off your ass and go to work. And schools that offer those degrees as majors should just be shut down. Worthless crap degrees dont pay for themselves. Engineering, Education, Science, Math, those are the degrees, among many others, that actually make you money. How many foreign schools do you think offer Liberal Thinking for the Mildly Confused degrees.

9 level 90s and 10 85s, Damn I need another hobby.

It's who and what you know that matters the most. The piece of paper covers what you know. You get to know people in college think "that kevin bacon game".

most fields, they don't care what degree you get, only that you get a degree.

so really, unless you're going into a specialized field where you need a specific skillset and the degree is the preferred way of showing you have it, getting any degree works fine.

i have a degree in accounting. i'm a programmer.

I agree, but at the same time it really feels like a lot of idiots are getting out of high school with a diploma. Probably half of it is the dumbing down of graduation requirements for affirmative action, but regardless, it seems like college is become more of a requirement just to prove you know how to read and write because employers know what kind of awful they'd get if they accepted high school graduates.

I was in a composition 1 class online my first semester in college, and I got paired with like 6 different people to review eachother's papers. None of them knew how to use the shift key, one person wrote an opinionated paper on abortion for a research paper.
