So, I've got my music library and I've shared it with my wife. We're both in the same homegroup, I think. When I click on the Windows menu and select Computer, I click Homegroup (on the left) and it says, "No other homegroup computers available", which is bullshit because my wife is right here on her computer spending money on Amazon.

Now, she can see my music... and I have my Music folder set to Share (Read/Write) with Homegroup...

But she can't use the Windows Search to search my music folder... which is the problem I'm having here. :P

Some MS page says this...
Quote:
Searching the homegroup is transparent. On each computer, Windows Search indexes the contents of the folders included in the Libraries. When you search the homegroup, Windows Search uses these indexes to find files on each homegroup computer. Searching a homegroup is no more difficult than using Windows Search to find files on your local computer.

My ass. I double checked our Homegroup settings, Homegroup ID, etc. Everything matches up... I've even rebuilt the index but no luck.

Clearly I missed something somewhere. Anyone have an Idea?

Eh, so... I can't see her computer on the homegroup... but she can see me. So, she opened my computer from the homegroup window and went to the music folder. Once she had the folder open, she could search music using the browser's search bar and things were fine. She just can't use the Windows Search utility on the Windows menu. Kinda gay...

And I don't really understand how the search bar works in the start menu, sometimes it finds stuff and other times not. It definitely doesn't search everything. I've noticed in explorer (with Windows Vista) the search finds everything in the current directory that you're in and all sub directories.

In the Control Panel you can use the Index thing to pick which folders you want to have indexed... then any indexed files are supposed to be available for search.

Also, when I searched using the box for 'Puscifer', the box came back with nothing... but when I wanted to view more search results, it came back with everything. /shrug

Are both computers Win7? It's the same shit like Vista and XP was where you have to do a bunch of retarded stuff to make it work.

Or you could take an old crap desktop, put a big HD in it, and set your network up so you could both pull from that regardless.

Just sayin'...

The Homegroup has always worked before, but for some reason, I can't see her... she can see me. (Which is fine because I'm the one with all the storage.) The reason I like the Homegroup is for how well it interfaces with my 360. Anyways, before I make a network file server I'll probably just get myself a NAS.

@ Meowth - Yerp. Both Win 7 Home Premium.
