upon actually reading all of this, it sounds like a decent idea. It's mostly true that talent trees were really bloated, and there's no way they were going to manage to make every point "interesting" the way they wanted to following the old model.

Plus, this'll make alts painless. Mutilate at 10, yes please.

it's kind of fun to wrap your mind around supercomplexity. i can see how that would be a problem for the majority of the subscriber base. going from lego to duplo, wicked smaht.

so will having fewer talent points to spend, and fewer talents to spend them on, reduce cooker cutter builds and increase character diversity?

Fast as easy, young child able do.
