I don't spend a lot of time on the phone, I never was a fan of being on the phone with someone really, because I always find myself wanting to do something else or getting distracted and only half listening to someone else.

I don't particularly like texting either (outside of really simple stuff), because I feel too limited in my responses and I tend to forget about the stupid beep and then people get mad at me for ignoring them.

I would say I prefer to IM. The messages are fast, I can type quickly, and I can say what I need/want to say effectively. Plus if I want to watch tv or wander off for a moment I can come back and the message is still sitting right there for me to read again.

I get kinda pissed off at the people who expect instant responses all the time, or freak the fuck out when I don't say hi every time they log on, and then there are the people who are retarded as fuck and put their own weird meanings into simple responses and get all offended at something you didn't even do. Oh god I'm ranting.

I like talking on the phone.
I once stayed up and had a 12+ hour conversation with my ex girlfriend.
It was the best conversation of my life.
Now I spend my time searching for someone to have those conversations with.

I haven't found it yet.

These thoughts feel like they came straight from my brain except I very rarely message people when they log on unless I have a purpose for it because I'm introvert like that. Also no one gets mad at me for not instantly responding to their messages, there may be, but no one has actually called me out on it.

The worst is when you're playing a game when someone calls you. Every time they ask a question it's blatantly obvious you're highly distracted, only goal is to get off the phone. Then you can make plans or chat for a bit, when you hang up it's all wtf did I just agree to do/talk about.

Earlier this week I was able to text this girl I'm trying to get with for 12+ hours but we managed to go to work, run some errands, and I even played TF2 without missing a beat.

Its a convenience thing, really.

Meh. I understand texting when you first meet someone because lots of people are a lot more comfortable writing back and forth (either by texting or on the PC) compared to talking face-to-face. But for me, there just comes a point where you just have to say listen, stop fucking texting me and lets go have a chat over a coffee or something... but with more tact and in way less than 12 hours.

Yes, basically this.

Talking on the phone is fine.

People on the other end not taking the fucking hint that it's time to break off the fucking call, on the other hand, can drown in used fryer grease.

Couple that with hearing impairment, and you have my philosophy.

I only talk on the phone if I'm driving, because it's less risky than texting while driving..

Well its first thing in the morning now. Shes in china, and the only time that works is after i get up. Crawl out of bed, piss and drink then pick up the phone.

Still, better than not talking at all for a month till shes back. Annoyin that she wanted me to call her every morning also before she left and freaked when i didnt for 2 days.

Serious question, is she your first girlfriend?

I'd rather talk on the phone, I.M or be face to face instead of texting or commenting on facebook. I think all that slow form just deteriorates our social ability. The same goes with forums, but I need something to do while at work.

I enjoy talking on the phone where there is nothing else to do and if I have something worth talking about. Like, in the car - perfect time to talk on the phone. My commute to and from the office is long and boring so it's the perfect time to catch up with the bros. :D

i can't even begin to fathom why "video chatting" is somehow a signifier of the future. why are companies spending millions of R&D dollars on this worthless technology? obviously texting has exploded because we want to convey information to each other with as little human interaction as possible. i've only webcammed someone once, and that was my mom + family while i was in iraq. even then it was kind of awkward.

Verily, I have often laughed at weaklings who thought themselves proud because they had no claws.

skype video is a little better, but not great because even though you can actually see them, you can only see them sitting there.

for any lengthy conversation i'd rather be in person.

I'm a mixed bag on this one... Sometimes I like talking on the phone, and other times I'd rather stick a fork in my eye rather than have a convo. It depends on who I am talking to.

My husban and I talk once or twice a day when he is at the office. He usually calls me asking how the short stacks are. Conversation lasts about a minute before the screaming commences. I'd rather text, but the man won't text! He almost never has his cell phone either :p

I like to text with my friends rather than talk on the phone because with 3 small humans running around, I get distracted too easily by them to have a phone convo.

When I prefer talking on the phone: When I have a large amount of information to give or receive from someone too far away to meet for coffee/dinner/drinks. Or when talking to my friends in Germany.

Anyway, yes, I like talking on the phone (I AM a girl after all)pk, but only when I have no distractions and it is to people that are far away. Otherwise I'd rather see them in person. :p
