The Dutch gift wrapped that game...especially because the one guy had a 1 v 1 with the goalie and completely stuffed it...

I didn't want Spain to win but they earned it.

That being said, soccer is generally boring, and the amount of acting/diving/rolling around that goes on makes me sick.

I think it was in the second half, this Spanish guy got tackled and started writhing around on the ground...the ref let play continue for a long time, and the spanish guy just kept rolling around...the ball got kicked out of bounds...the ref goes over to the spanish guy, and then gives this Netherlands guy a yellow card (retroactively)....the Spanish guy then jumped up and was perfectly fine.

Any sport where you just need to keep rolling around and crying (when you aren't hurt) to get the ref to retroactively give a penalty...and it actually works...is just bullshit.

The problem wtih the championship game was the same issue alot of sporting events "Big Games". Massive dissapointment. The game was beyond sloppy. Holland did not seem to be able to pass and Spain kept missing wide open shots. The 3rd/4th place game was great to watch, even though I had to work, I was working house calls for internet repairs for my company so I got to see parts of the game. Spain won on their defense and a good shot off a fairly lucky bounce.

Soccer by nature is very hard to watch on tv, similar to hockey. The action happens in spurts and the rest of the game is spent lining up for passes and trying to get proper position. TV cameras are not friendly at all to that type of play because tv producers have to try to guess where the ball is going next. Basketball is easy to shoot, just put the camera on the superstar and he will get the ball eventually. Football has taken years to perfect but alot of the games are very well shot. Baseball is mostly seen from that slightly off center outfield shot behind the pitcher. Golf is not a sport its a hobby so it should not be filmed.

On a side not, the diving in soccer should get an automatic red card. If you can hop up and run back to the play when you dont get a card called against your opponent, it should cost you time. In the 90s before they started giving yellow cards for diving, it was even worse. There is a video of the worst soccer dives ever, and it is a classic. When I played soccer in high school we had some dude dive on one of our fullbacks and get him a card / penalty shot. He then tried it again, I mean a bad dive, like so bad that no one was around him. He got red carded because the ref realized he was pulling some bullshit. He also got bloodies up pretty bad our next game by the back that he got a yellow card.

9 level 90s and 10 85s, Damn I need another hobby.

I was wondering the same thing. I didn't know that almsot everyone I knew followed soccer. In fact, I've never heard a single person I know speak a word about it until now.

What are you guys, hipsters or some shit? You have to love something your entire life to enjoy it? Well I've liked soccer since it was on vinyl, so fuck you.

I'm just saying, I'm seeing a lot of bandwagon jumping. Not necessarily here because I don't know you guys' sports passions or anything, but my IRL friends who don't watch or care about sports at all are suddenly flipping out because x team lost. I just don't understand where the hype came from o_O I've never even heard them talk about it during previous World Cups.

The disharmonious "BZZZZZZ" of the vuvuzela is a hypnotic sound.

"Ok we aren't such things and birds are pretty advanced. They fly and shit from anywhere they want. While we sit on our automatic toilets, they're shitting on people and my car while a cool breeze tickles their anus. That's the life."

I think that some dude I was talking to at a pub during the US/England game said it best.

"I don't really know what the hell's going on, but I know that I'm going to get drunk and scream "USA!" whenever everyone else does."

Personally, I've been trying to get into soccer for a while and the World Cup finally gave me that extra push.

Maybe next cup, Deustchland.
