Boring and dumb.

Engineering gems that can be placed only in engineering sockets only on engineering helms...about as interesting as any fixed stat bonus, repackaged to make it more obtuse, because the devs can't think of anything interesting to do with it. It's even more retarded when you realize you won't be able to use those engineering gems ever again after the first two weeks of the expansion when you upgrade your engineering goggles with a raid drop. Even if you can still use those gems (via engineering-only sockets or something), it remains that it's nothing but a boring bonus to whatever your best stat is.

The engineering goggles are a massive self-nerf since items with on-use abilities can't be the target of on-use devices such as the mind-control dish.

On-use armor to gloves is retarded, it's WAY less powerful than the current enchant which isn't even as good as JC/BS/mining, it's basically a really weak Stoneform which is one of the weaker tank racials, it means the tank would have to watch swing timers and hit the button...for 1% additional mitigation versus a swing or two...that's even less powerful than GotN or Lifeblood or any conceivable trinket...

1500 armor ON-USE with 20% uptime or 885 armor with 100% uptime? Then consider than 1500 armor at 85 is probably about as effective as about a third that amount now. This enchant is so bad, even TBC defense enchants would probably give more effective health. Then you realize they're nerfing something that was never even remotely BiS in the first place and every min-maxxing tank always took other professions anyway.

Everything else is just upgraded WotLK stuff which was boring...

Potion devices are a nerf in disguise - a big one - because the superlative belt enchant now gives what was previously a separate bonus (stronger potions) - at the cost of free bombs and the EMP...

I like how Blizzard said they wanted to make Engineering "interesting" rather than a min-maxxer's preferred profession then did the opposite.

Believe me, no tears here for having decided to not buy the expansion. I wondered what they were going to do with Engineering but I never dreamed it would be so utterly retarded.

Well it's only a preview, so there's no telling if the bomb belt is going to be back or not. Some of the stuff is p neat though, hopefully the helms won't suck dick Wrath style.

Bliz said no more upgradeable profession gear. The helms are entry level only and will be rendered obsolete by T11 as evidenced by sheer item level (359, same as any entry level raid drop) and lack of set bonuses. You will wear these for two weeks then trash them.

Quote:
Hand-Mounted Pyro Rocket - Permanently attaches a hand-mounted pyro rocket launcher to your gloves, allowing a skilled engineer to deal 1654 to 2020 Fire damage to an enemy at long range. The rocket can only be fired once every 45 sec.

Tazik Shocker - Permanently attaches a tazik shocker to your gloves, allowing a skilled engineer to deal 1654 to 2020 Nature damage to an enemy at long range. The shocker can only be used once every 45 sec.

The values are the same so presumably they will be adjusted. I don't like the idea of having to choose between numerically more powerful new tools and conceptually more powerful old ones - i.e., EMP versus potion belt - so this is at least one marginally positive note; however, on the whole engineering in Cata looks utterly retarded.

Assuming they tune the armor to gloves...on-use armor would be very difficult to make useful without being overpowered. Stoneform is 10% more armor. Taking Lifeblood as competitive with GotN, the on-use armor would have to be about 3000 armor at 80 and probably about 5-10k at 85 for about 5% more mitigation.

It's not a horrible idea, thinking about it - more CDs are always good - but it will depend on tuning.

There is no information what the engineering "gems" will work for. They only datamined that they exist.

The helms are... meh. But they are always bound to be meh as any trainable craftable item will be.

The enchants are obviously placeholders because they have the same stats as the existing ones.

I don't know why MMO Champ posted this, they didn't provide any information they didn't datamine months ago. GG placeholders.

But I mean, they're going to allow the crafted PvP gear to upgrade with each season, I doubt the helmets will do the same, but never know.

Besides, in BC the engineering goggles were like level 62 and were BiS till around BT - Sunwell, least for rogues. Just because they have a lower ilvl doesn't mean they won't be better itemized or just better in general. I'm hoping blizzard will find a middle ground between how overpowered goggles were in BC and how shitty they were in Wrath. But it's blizzard, so maybe I'm asking for too much.

If engineering goes nuts I will be glad I have three. If it gets nerfed to the ground I have already decided at least one of them will go JC so I can factoin change my rogue. Either way new toys are nice.

Besides Aestu, your not playing in Cata so why even post?

This was true only for reasons that won't apply in Cata - the extremely limited availability of drops, and how bad much of the itemization was. Since tiers of content will be undifferentiated - Bliz has said everyone will see the end of every tier of content, get full sets of tier, and gear inflation will continue throughout the expansion, there won't be the situation of guilds progressing through T5/T6 and still needing to upgrade their Spellstrike or whatnot. Since itemization is homogenized, players will simply use whatever has the most stats on it, which means engineering helms will be passed up quickly due to the low itemization value. This also of course lowers the skillcap with regards to itemization and removes much of the planning element.

All good things come to an end, but certainly it's not my first preference. It's too bad, really. And you should know me well enough to know that I have serious difficulty with lettings things go in general.

I hope that profession gets gutted solely because I've had to put up with the horseshit that is rocket boots.

If you cant catch them, join them. Amazingly one of the better counters to rocket boots is the tailoring nets, but they are so rarely used that you may never see that duel happen.
