How much do you know about your family history? I’ve long been interested in genealogy, and have helped a couple of guildies find information on ancestors. Lately, I’ve been helping Seribus with some genealogical research, and we’ve discovered some interesting bits of history relating to his family, like pictures of the ships some of his family emigrated on, participation in the American Civil War, how the potato famine killed/drove some of his ancestors to America, etc. Kind of fun, imo.

I saw Aestu Massacre and Magnarr online and bugged them about this, but had less information to go on, so I failed to find anything solid on Aestu’s group. I found some stuff relating to Massacre, but haven't been able to confirm his relationship to a famous author, as a family rumor has it. Not yet, anyway. ;) I was able to confirm a couple of small things for Magnarr.

If you’re interested in any help looking up ancestors, let me know. I really don’t need recent generations, like your parents. You can discover that much easily enough. However, any information you can provide about your great grandparents would be helpful, like name, birth date, place of birth. Once your tree leaves the U.S., I won’t be able to discover too much unless someone has posted information online, but I’d be happy to look. I know everyone isn’t interested in family history, but if you are, I’ll help if I can.

You have 8 great grandparents. Whatever information you can offer on any or all of them will help. You can post names and information here, or email me at [email protected].

EDIT: BTW, my great grandparents surnames are all from OLD American lines: Anderson, Barnes, Cason, Crabtree, Gore, Pitts, Sims, and Smith.

I will take you up on this offer and send an email a bit later in the day.
A coworker of mine has been slowly building his family tree, as well as his wifes. Both of their lineage is currently traced back to the 1500's in Ireland. Pretty amazing

There is actually a manuscript written about my fathers family history, but it unfortunately got caught up/ stolen during some family drama and no one will admit they have it. One of my uncles read parts of it that describe our family dating back to some of the orignal settlers of Georgia and North Florida as well as a direct relation to William Penn (founder of Pennsylvania). I dont have alot of contact with that side of the family anymore so unfortunately I may never get to see the actuall writings. I was told my great uncle had it but confirmed with him that he does not, or if he does a retired admiral in the US Navy lied to his namesake, so I think he is in the clear, lol.

I've actually done some looking up, my great grandmother's side comes from the Germany/Poland region. There was a burning of records in the time they came over to the US in the 1900s iirc which prevented me from going any furtherback.

My father's side immigrated from Lithuania in the early 1900's and set up a deli in Cleveland, where my dad was born.

My mom's grandma's side (according to my grandma) has direct links to some American president (I think Zachary Taylor). I don't know how it works out, but I'm also part of the Wallace Clan from Scotland.

My grandpa was a McCoy and I'm directly related to everyone on the McCoy side of the McCoy/Hatfield feud (if any of you know what that is).

I'm doing some horseshit trial thing at ancestry.com so I can get more info, as Dan and I talked about this last week.

I've got one side of my family traced back to the 1540s, (I can't remember exactly) coming from between France and Germany. And the other side is from Scotland but none of the lesser clans trace well.

A lot of family lore involved famous people, Native Americans, and bastard royalty. Most of these stories prove untrue, but not all! If you're interested in proving up some of the family stories, get me anything you have on the line you'd like to research, and I'll help if I can.

Can you look up slaves?

And I ask this, because I know a lot about my father's side of the family, but my mother's kinda becomes obscure around the 1850s. :/

Germans, Germans, and more Germans.

Slavery caused some serious genealogical problems, as you can imagine. But there has been a concerted effort to come up with records related to this. I'll be glad to look around if you can pass along as much information as possible back to your greats.

Alright, I'll bug my mom for names when I get home - definitely interested to see what you can find :)

My aunt is into this, but being that 3/4 of my grandparents parents were born in europe makes it difficult. But one interesting thing is that my great granfather invented a version of/the Peephole and Combination lock, but sold the patents for food.

My grandfather also captured an american paratrooper during the war in hungary.

Thank God my ancestors weren't enslaved by some neighboring tribe and sold to the white man for two Cowrie shells.

Edit: German, Irish, Italian sup?
