i was once in the backyard with my brother. i put my foot on a soccer ball near the house. my brother came running up from behind me and slammed into me, causing me to fall face first into the foundation of the house.

i was taken to the hospital for xrays, but there was no damage.

at least, to my face. there was a new hole in the concrete foundation though.

I addressed your point - allegedly this person is better than me, and how I should feel about it. I say that's your value judgment and the fact that you acknowledge that it's even possible to be superior proves your own hypocrisy.

No, because I never said it's not possible to be superior (in terms of qualifications and achievements). I did, however, say that she and many of us hold more qualifications that you; that we are superior to you in that regard, which isn't saying much.

There is no benefit to joining MENSA other than ego. It exists only so that people who believe they are elite can exclude themselves from the company of those they see as non-elite.

"Doctorate" is not a proper noun and is not capitalized, and the only reason to capitalize it is pretentiousness- a desire to set oneself above others.



All you've really managed to do is say that this person, who is your friend, who has a lot of paper qualifications but has no apparent effectiveness outside the academic or institutional, is despised by a lot of people, and actively seeks to put herself above others through elitist behavior, is better than this other person, who is not your friend, who has some paper qualifications and substantial effectiveness outside the academic and institutional, is despised by a lot of people but also friends with some others, and deserves to be damned because supposedly he believes he is better than others.

Seems like nothing more than a self-serving value judgement aimed at making the case that those who are your friends are good and those who are not are bad. Of course this is human nature; to make the argument that those who are close to us are good and those we don't get along with so well are evil. It's a hard thing to see it all in shades of grey.
