John Carpenter's "Halloween" made me afraid of the dark from ages 4(when i saw it) to around 15.

I'm still mildly paranoid about shit jumping out at me but I think that has more to do with working graveyards in abandoned buildings/construction sites in really bad neighborhoods.

Remember the original Resident Evil, when you're walking down that long hallway with the windows for the first time and all the sudden those FUCKING ZOMBIE DOGS start bursting through the windows and all you have is a fucking pistol and there are like 6 of them?

That scared the shit out of me more than once.

I was so glad zombies couldn't open doors.

Oho my god, this.

There's a part on Silent Hill where there's like a zombie baby with a knife that always got me too.

monsters spawning in shadowy areas and behind you in the original DOOM when you're 7 years old imo.

For some reason this reminded me of the baby level in Max Payne, holy shit that game was fucked up.

Couple things for me:

Image

The Fly....scary stuff. The part where he barfs on stuff to eat it is particularly disturbing. Also, when the lady has the nightmare that she gives birth to a giant maggot.

Image

The alien abduction episodes scared the crap out of me as a kid...especially with the creepy host talking. I was legitimately frightened of getting abducted and probed by some aliens.

Image

This was by far the scariest thing for me as a kid....I was terrified I would be murdered in my dreams.

Image
Image

The are you afraid of the dark episode...where the kid steals the clown's nose from a Funhouse...and the clown comes after him.....horrifying.

When I was a kid, I would take all my Halloween candy and put it big freezer bags - for years. I did this for about 3-4 years. One day, I took it all out, thawed it, and and ate it all in one sitting.

In elementary school, my peers and I brought drink boxes filled with flavored fruit juice for lunch. I would go around the room and take everyone's empty juice boxes and drag them home and toss them in my walk-in closet. After a year and a half of this, I took them all out and made a giant castle in response to an art project.

"Hey, those are OUR drink boxes!"
"Yes, but it's MY castle."

My elementary school had a big sandbox with coarse, heterogeneous sand, with a lot of gravel in it. The sandbox was raised and made of old, warped wood. When the rain fell, it would gather in puddles in the coarse sand and make its way out the breaches between the boards.

After it rained, I would sit and make unusual, city-like sandcastles, with meandering aqueducts and reservoirs. Other children would walk over and ask me, "Ethan, what should I do?" "Go over there and make another mound." Sometimes bullies did not like this and I would task individual kids with fending them off. I also liked making dams. Once I went to a local park and with about half a dozen other kids dammed a river. A park ranger followed the blockage downstream and nervously told us to break the dam. I still remember the look on his face.

I was a very difficult-to-control child in many ways.

Damming creeks has to be common behavior, my friends and I tended to try this a lot when we were like 10.

GDI azelma, I agree with the Unsolved Mysteries one about the aliens, and I talk about that episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark whenever that show is brought up, because it still remains ridiculously vivid in my mind. When the kid is locked in his room and the clown is trying to get in and blows up a balloon through the bedroom door??? NOT COOL... There's a couple more episodes that freak me the fuck out, too, one involving a fire and looking directly into it and another involving a gremlin on some computer screen that kills some kids' parents or something horrible.

Playing WoW again in 2018, kill me, thanks

I don't know what it is about that show, I remember Are You Afraid of the Dark but I never really watched it. I guess I was either too old or too much of a pansy (or too busy breaking bones falling off of things). I do have a pretty active imagination though so the pansy theory is plausible.

Edit: looks like it ran from '92 to '96 so I was likely too old. I was busy reading Jurassic Park in '93 and scaring myself with that.

I remember there was a scene from Are You Afraid of the Dark where this boy and girl were sitting in a living room with a lot of windows. Outside the windows it was foggy and I think there was a swimming pool or maybe a lake out there. Anyways, it was kinda awkward when the boy turned to the girl and said, "So, wanna make out?" That scene made me uncomfortable.

Does anyone really ask that? I've always just had it happen without someone asking for the session.
