What does fubu think about this? Im interested to see what the military people think about it.

IMO I dont think anything is much of a surprise. Pakistan is in cahoots, shits worse than it is, the government tells lies, or just doesnt say stuff so they cant be told that theyre lying. Then again idk too much, havent paid any attention really to it, just headlines etc.

I am THE man.

I actually don't know what to think. On one hand I like to know as much as I can about anything, especially relating to the US and Pakistan (where my family is from, though we all hate it).

but on the other hand, if such leaked information does in fact create security concerns and makes our troops more vulnerable, I don't think it should be out there for all the world to see.

IDK, IJDK!

the leaked information was previously offered to the WH for review.

there was no reply.

in the WH, the copyright "czar" has ties to Righthaven, a firm that makes its profit off of buying copyrights and suing people who post the material, for example, reposting of news articles.

they sue, settle out of court, then look for something else to sue you for. aka, copyright trolls.

if you can't see why these two things are linked, you're blind.

So a division of people in the white house leaked a bunch of stuff that 1) makes our leadership/military look stupid, 2) may jeapordize the safety of our fighting men and women in the field and 3) is bound to boost morale of the people we're fighting if not turn even MORE against us so that they can make a quick buck in a settlement?

I really don't want to believe it, but I also have such a lack of faith in humanity that I really can't deny it.

By allowing this to leak, you allow the public to have your same reaction. Except, it's supposed to be towards wikileaks. It's supposed to tarnish something that could be valuable in a free world. Also note that this comes after the embarrassment from that fired General.

Now, if there's now 7 people in the world that have "keys" to shut down the internet, copyright trolls with connections to politicians milking bloggers and forums for their non-existent money, and an increasing desire to squelch the truth (or even discussion of news), no matter how ugly or inconvenient...

bye-bye miss american pie.

Classified information is classified for a reason. Anyone who leaks information, knowingly or not, should be charged with treason.

As to what the administration will do to nullify the damage this may have caused... dunno. I'm don't know what the leaked information contains and I don't wanna seek it out, either. Ain't gunna touch that shit with a 17' pole.

The fired general spent most of his career in blackops and counterintelligence.

I imagine he's smart and deceitful enough to get himself fired from an unwinnable position like afghanistan.

so when general P inevitably fails in afghanistan, it won't be McKiernans ass who gets saddled with the blame.

The way I see it, it was either a bonehead move that will work out for him, or a sneaky smart move that will work out for him.

What does this have to do with copyright? The leaked material was produced by US government employees as part of their duties, which means it isn't protected by copyright.

The guilty party or parties are the individual(s) that failed to keep classified information out of other people's hands. No small part of the training you receive for security clearances deals explicitly with how you handle classified materials. I know a lot of things that I am under legal obligation to never divulge...but I could tell you what books you could read or websites to look at in a lot of cases that would provide that exact information. Tom Clancy's nonfiction is full of it.

The press isn't under the same obligations. Their job is find things out and report them, especially if its things that have a direct bearing on how our government is doing business. I have a lot of problems with the press as a whole, liberal and conservative and everything in between, but getting access to this information and not reporting on it would concern me a lot more.

my thoughts to wikileaks:

thank you liberal muckrakers for increasing my die-ability in afghanistan by ten-fold for the sake of ratings or some other arbitrary bullshit. governments lie, omit, censor, and hide. that is why they're the government. you voted. so if you read my name in the obituary, blame yourselves.

Verily, I have often laughed at weaklings who thought themselves proud because they had no claws.

The invasion of Iraq and continued occupation of Afghanistan fit all of these criterion, you know. The only thing that changes is that its not some small firm that's profiting, its the military-industrial complex.
