So wait, what is the Phoenix guild reward for? Just completing content I/E your guild downs enough bosses? Or is their a hardmode gimmick to it?

As for this game...I've long since gotten over it. Really, it's the nature of MMOs. When the new XPAC comes out, all that gear you so relentlessly farmed becomes obsolete. As evidenced by this, Blizz will keep releasing new items etc, that are just as "good" or "better" than old items/mounts.

However, I think you're missing one thing.

I don't think that the new mount diminishes the value of the old one. I think what happens now in this game is that there is a "vintage" factor. Your Ashes are now vintage Aestu, so grats!

I actually did "read" the post, I was being facetious.

Really, becoming vintage is the only thing that is left with titles and mounts and such from old content. It's the nature of the game, unfortunately.

When you mention prestige etc...no matter what Blizzard does, it's just not the same as when the thing first came out. You got your mount at 80, when it was possible to zerg the content, and not nearly as challenging as when it was the latest content available. Sure you were fighting RNG, but you weren't in one of the top guilds on server, one of the few to even down the boss.

I remember being in complete awe when I was a lowly 70 and I saw the night elf hunter in RM (Xenia, Xayia...X something? I can't remember her fuggin name ffs someone from RM help me.) with the Ashes...I'm pretty sure that toon was the only one on server at the time (there may have been one more). When I saw the Ashes floating there in Shat, I got literally EXCITED. I sent her a tell being like "zomg awesome, grats!" and even followed her around for a bit just looking at them because I'd never seen them in game before.

When I saw you sitting on the Ashes, I only thought, "meh, grats Aestu" I didn't chase you around Dalaran just looking at it. It didn't have the same impact. Like it or not, the prestige for having them just wasn't the same because time and new levels/content had made them much more trivial. Nothing more than a nice little something to add to one's collection. No awe.

To that end, it doesn't matter what Blizzard is doing, because the mount is already not the same. All you can do is enjoy your little vintage fun mount (and it's a feat of strength is it not?) and be done with it.

Sorry bro, your mount just isn't that leet anymore.

You said exactly the same thing again, at much greater length. Again you completely missed the point.

When I posted "Yes, I have the Ashes of Al'ar; no, I did not ninja them," the latter was the operative phrase. Any Galive or Soulfighter could sucker pugs into getting him the Ashes; I take pride that I (and Vbomb) did not. Now there's a real gamer. Having the Ashes itself was never the point. I got my Azure Drake about the same time and to this day it was what went into getting it is, to me, an infinitely greater source of pride. Who else could be so driven, so audacious? Most people can't believe it was even done; to this day most skip the Malygos weekly.

*Here I would like to thank those who really made it possible, especially Meowth, Purpledrink, Quadtard, and many others who didn't just come for the gold...*

I don't ride it because quite a few people have it incidentally from 10-man, and it's also slower. I had thought about making it my Cata mount because by then it will have faded into obscura and be diluted by attrition. I'd ride my plagued for sure, if it wasn't hideous.

But all that is neither here nor there. My point wasn't how it would impact the existing Ashes, my point was about the community going forward.

So, the whole conversatin about Ashes and this new mount really does not mean much to me. Ashes has not really been much than a proof that people will spend gold since LK came out. Vbomb, Aestu, Glaive, and many others bought the mount plain and simple. I forget the name of a few of those that ninja'd it as well, but being able to down a 25 man boss with 10 people is not very impressive. I can solo the mount bosses in Kara, ZG and MgT in a matter of minutes and don't do so because I want to be in some elite club, I do it becuase you need most of them for the mount achievment.

What I am pissed about is the whole 310% speed mounts being purchasable. I worked very hard and spent a lot of time doing the Long Strange Trip achievment and had a few near misses. Those that have the pvp mounts, and please dont start with the pvp comp discussions and op dks, should have the prestige of having the faster mounts. But any time they put these big gold sinks in, you leave alot of opportunity for hackers and gold buyers to suddenly have all of the same abilities as those who work for it. Yes, the violet proto-drake was available to anyone who will put the time in, and yes some compositions face roll to gladiator drakes, but you at least have to put forth some sort of effort.

I will probably edit this and pick it up later but I got pulled onto a project at work as I was typing, so if it does not look complete, I will try to fix it later.

I just lost the game.

Also, about that 60% Brewfest Mount Aestu, I'm not sure if you were playing at the time, least I don't think you were. If you did in fact get the handstamp to buy the mounts and just didn't buy the 60% one, I hear that you can buy it anytime during brewfest still.

Nope. I don't have it, and both handstamp and mount are no longer obtainable.

I suppose I see your point, but I'm failing to understand it.

First off, I'm not sure what the guild requirement is for this mount. Does everyone in the guild get it when said guild downs a number of bosses in Cata? Or is it when they complete a certain achievement (IE the mounts from ICC and Ulduar)?

In any case, I don't see how this negatively affects the community as a whole. Having another item in game that only a certain % of the player base will be able to get (depending on what the guild requirement is...which again I confess I have no idea) does not change the game for me (I'm quite casual...actually I haven't logged in in quite some time...it's been over a month since I last raided).

If Blizz wants to hand out a cool looking mount to a bunch of players...what's the problem? I fail to see how this makes my game experience any worse...if anything, it might make it slightly better if I somehow get a cool mount because the more dedicated players in my guild did work (although I would feel slightly guilty since I wouldn't have "earned" it per se, so I can see your point there).

The only valid point I think you have is the 310% thing. There should be a prestige associated with that...if I could just mouthbreath my way to 310% mount speed, then there's something a bit messed up about it.

Then again, I fail to see how this is going to destroy the community more than it is already messed up. Look at this game now Aestu, you talk of community. I say, "what community?" I see the retards in trade chat shouting at each other, I see ninjas left and right, I see failure pugs, I see failure guilds, I see a watering down of player skill, I see facerolling deathknights and retarded hunters. I see lootship, and content that is easily farmable. I see all these things.

Aestu, the ship has been sinking for quite some time, I think we can both agree. One more hole in the ship isn't going to make that much of a difference, so it's best to save your energy for other, more worthwhile endeavors (getting laid, perhaps). If you aren't going to play Cata, don't worry about it.

It's like you're at the pool and you see a turd floating by. You are complaining to the Life Guard that someone shit in the pool. But you weren't going to get in anyway, even if the turd wasn't there...so why waste the energy?

I have read maybe one of the posts in here so I can't rightly say I have any idea of what's going on but it sounds to me like maybe Aestu is just voicing his concerns of the effect of this in the future. It's kinda like seeing some about to jump in said pool and you warning them and they're all "Whoa thanks man, I almost jumped on that bad boy." or akin to seeing the effect of global warming and being all "Hey man, I'm gonna die in like 50 years but you guys should really do something about this before it gets CRAAAAZAAAY!".

idfk =/

We used to have races in my old guild to see who could get the most passes on that beer run. I did the original mount run and loved it, then found the next year that I could just buy the damn thing and it did not mean as much to me. My lock is slowly fading to the background and I may move forward with my pally as my main, but damn those older quest were fun and I can never do some of them on my pally.
