Okay, so I've been searching through WoW.com etc. and I think I understand the guild reward thing...maybe?

Your guild gets uh...points or something...or tokens? For getting experience, completing quests...downing bosses?

Your guild can then use these to buy certain items (one of which being The Dark Phoenix that is causing so much rage, other heirloom items).

Then, everyone in your guild can have this mount, or item? It's designed to lower "guild hopping syndrome" because if you leave your guild, you'd obviously lose that item?

AMIRITE?

I thought I read the currency is no more and you just get perks whenever your guild reaches a new level so I believe it'll function more like getting bonuses for mastering a profession rather than spending talent points in your skill trees.

Basically yes, it won't work because the people who guild hop have their reasons and won't give a shit about the mount or anything else on the table.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

All they can do is provide incentives. Some people will not be attracted by them, but the fact that it will not miraculously cause a 100% retention rate does not mean it won't have an effect.

No, it won't be a perfect solution, but when you're dealing with shaping human behavior there are no perfect solutions.

People should stay in guilds because they want to, not because of extra shiny shit dangled in front of them. Guild loyalty isn't really loyalty when it's artificially induced.

Nothing's really changing. Now that you can simply faceroll through everything, the "artificially induced" loyalty is now coming as mounts and pets as opposed to loot.

You can if you choose the horse!

Copout

EDIT: Forget it, Tuhl said it best. It's like the Oculus "fix": increase the incentives rather than make the game more fun.

Good players are going to go from good guild to good guild that will probably have all of the best stuff anyways.

This.

And newer players will still have the natural progression of:

leveling guild >>>> shitty max level guild >>>> better/casual raiding guild >>>> hardcore raiding guild

and those people in social style guilds can still have their social fun and get shiny loots just for logging in and playing with the community.

No, because there is no longer progression in this game. By and large players get in at a level and stay there or quit.

Disagree. There is still a difference between guilds like

Miller Time <<<< HP <<<< Tasty Beverage

(in progression terms)

There is still progression based on hardmodes/achievements, and certain guilds still struggle to down the last bosses (I know a bunch of guilds didn't get LK 25 down until some significant buffs).

This hasn't changed because content is more easily seen now...it just isn't as obvious (IE, only a few people in the best guilds have loot off this boss...now it's they have this special mount or heroic loot from that boss)

In any case, there will still be players who start out...get a few pieces of loot off the EZ mode bosses in an instance, realize their guild sucks and can't defeat any more...so they will move to the next guild that can kill a few more bosses, or almost clear the whole thing. Then, if they really like loot, and strive to be even more "leet" they will bide their time and eventually app to a hardcore guild going for hardmodes etc and get hardmode gear.
