Your argument is wholly the product of the assumptions and values of the present day. It's small-minded and chauvinistic to say that what your civilization happens to believe MUST be absolute truth and other civilizations are all wrong.
You say, "Western". Ok, what about non-Western? India? China? Persia? The Americas? Germanic barbarians? Arabs? How many of those have traditional gender roles and how many do not? So who's to say what we believe here and now is more correct?
