Just got 3 different things in the mail telling me I will save money by switching to what these other companies offer. I think my last payment for 6 months was ~270 using Progressive. Should I bother going to each of their quote finders or does this seem average for someone who has no crashes or tickets, or anything in fact, on my record?

$270 for 1 driver with a clean record?

Do you drive a lexus? With ridiculous amounts of coverage? Are you under 25? Are you married?Only driver on the policy? Live in a congested or accident prone demographic area?

It's all about what you're after. I will never use Progressive or any of the other webby types. I very much like going around the corner to my agent's office and talking with the pretty receptionist. That's just not something Geico can compete with.

Yes, I probably pay more than if I would switch, but I would guess Progressive wouldn't call me up out of the blue saying "we've just found a way to drop your rate XXX bucks a month, and keep your coverage exactly the same". My cool dudes with the pretty receptionist have...twice now.

Also, two identical-seeming policies, one from E-surance and the other from Nationwide won't be identical. Nationwide will have the better coverage and therefore the higher cost. Those cheaper rates come from somewhere, and I can pretty well assure you it's not from their pockets.

tl/dr answer: shop around if you want, just remember you do get what you pay for.

I dunno, I have E-surance, and I'm pretty happy with it. I pay about $600 for 6 months, and I get roadside assistance and shit with it.

Never had to file a claim with them, so I can't say how their response is.

When I had an accident with Progressive coverage, those guys were on it like stink on a European. I hit a deer heading to the sub base at around 6 am, and by noon, they had the car towed, the repairs set up and paid, and they cut me a check for...something, don't remember what....and were holding open the door to my rental car for me. I was most impressed.

@Mikebro

lolcanada

@Godslayer

He pays $270 for six months. So $45 a month.
