So as you know, I'm going to Germany in September. There's been talks of going to Alsace-Lorraine since its close. Anything I should be on the lookout for?

Beer.

Go to Alsace. It's like Germany only most of the people speak a better language and eat better food.

The food isn't spectacular, but I'm as big into beer as most assholes (tuhl) are into wine.

It's near Italy?

Oh, funny video related to French tourism...takes a minute to get to it, but so worth it:

Then totally worth it :P

Germany is the spot in Europe where the food starts to decline rapidly, and doesn't get better until Greece/Turkey (going eastwards). Crazy Eastern Europeans. The sausage tradition is pretty awesome though.

Maybe you should pick up some spray cheese and a couple cans of Chef Boyardee.

They're not food habbits. I'd choose pizza/sandwhich/salad/any number of other things over canned pasta. It's just cheaper.

If you can stretch it, head to brussels, even for a day, its just an awesome city. The grand place is actually fucking amazing. Esp if you like old buildings and the like. Also their beer selection is amazing. Talking places with over 400 types of beer.

Or if you spend anytime in the south, vienna is nice to sit in cafe's. never been to actual germany though.

Edit: Zaryi, you're skipping over Vienna and Hungary, which have by far the best pastry deserts in the world. Hungarian is also awesome food, if you like the whole thick-stick to your rib type things. Lots of paprika and sour cream in everything. But def north and east of that its shit. lolpoland/romania.

When you're eating something thats one part sausage, oen part ground meat, 2 parts rice, 4 parts sour cream, 2 parts paprika and about 20 parts sourkrout, you are asnything but hungry at the end.

The end result is going to Munich for Oktoberfest. Besides that, here's the tentative list of places.

Alsace-Lorraine
Amsterdam
Bruges
Cologne
Zurich
Vienna

It kind of sucks foodwise because I'm trying to stay away from red meat, but whatever.

EDIT: One of my best friends is Croatian (he just got naturalized a couple weeks ago) and judging from what his grandmother cooked, Eastern European food isn't that bad, it's just painfully plain.

Since you're in bruges, get your ass to brussels. All of belgium is super nice. Bruges is as well, although i caution you eating by the canals because most smell like shit, partly because of the geese/swans and because the horse tours go along them.

Too bad its in october, cause i was in bruges for their independence day, shit was crazy. When in vienna, just explore the shit out of it. There are lots of nice little cafe's hidden everywhere that are cool to just take a look at. The cathedral area is also nice, alot going on in the evening. Dont bother going outside of vienna though, the east of it shit is shit.

Try the cheese in belgium too, its pretty much the same as french, just less nose-sticking-in-the-airing quality about it.

Also check the flea markets in bruges, theyre kind of cool. If you go south along the border with france, there are alot of hilltop castles and stuff like that which is cool to spend a day at.

I used to think Deustcheland was pronounced "Douche-land".
