This was inspired by the thread about Dotzillas random girl text thing.

Currently, I am talking with this girl, I'm really into her. One thing that kinda sucks though, she LOVES texting. I hate texting. A phone call is simply so much better. You lose so many essential communication signals (sarcasm, etc). It's also so much harder to let your personality shine through a stupid text...how do you flirt via text? idk.

Texting is also destroying the English language. Looking at kids today (who have grown up on texting...texting since they were in elementary school) and they all sound like morons (see the Justin Long troll thread ). I actually talked with a French girl once who was saying that texting has affected the french language significantly....youths talk in abbreviated slang because of texting each other all the time.

Plus, it takes forever to say things via text that could easily be said in an actual phone conversation.

However, against my wishes, I find myself texting more and more...using smiley faces and abbreviations ("bitches love smiley faces" - The Boondocks).

Thoughts on texting?

I prefer chatting online, can type a shit load and think at the same time.

Texting limits you to slower typing speed. That's only the only thing I bitch about and the costs (for me anyway.)

Phone calls feel different. But then how is it different than talking in real life? You get to see expressions/You can express yourself with your body language and your face. On the phone you can't.

on a side note how do you get "UH-ZEL-MUH" from Azelma?

Azmaria, I get "As-maria." "Ass-maria."(my favorite?)

How do you get an UH sound from an A?

Texting itself sucks, but only for the annoyance of typing on a phone mixed with how slow it is.

I have nothing against chatting online though, or even BBM.

Texting is just an alternative method of communication and it's a damn good one for kepping history. "Text me your number" "Text me the address" "What time are we meeting" Texting is also nice because you can have multiple recipients.

And I don't think Texting has made anyone less smart. It's a short-form abbreviated way of communicating that existed long before texting when AIM and AOL Chatrooms were big.

I prefer texting when my kids are being loud. Then I can still have a conversation with another adult, but still be listening to my children. It also allows me to continue the conversation at our leisure. I can stop in the middle and play Polly Pockets for an hour if my children want to.

Texting on my Moment is a heck of a lot easier than it was on my Touch. I have a physical keyboard and can type on it just as easily as a regular keyboard. Also, I have a program that converts speech to text and vice versa if I need to "text" while in the car.

I wish Iggy would text.

Fuck texting, if i want something i'l be a man and have a 1 minute long conversation with someone saying this is what i want, and this is when i want it.

Texting has a purpose when at a computer or something like that, but other than that, it's a useless invention, takes me less time to call someone that to IDKMYBFFJILL someone

There are some real perks to texting if you work in a technical field, lots of devices can now send out an email alert which when aimed at an email-to-text gateway lands right at your cell phone no matter where you are. Being able to get alerts like that sure beats the hell out of having to open up a laptop, connect to a VPN and remote into a machine every so often to make sure its not on fire or anything like that.

Why say something, when you can take three times as long to write it?

Texting is better than listening to some whore that you don't really care about blab about her cat.

1) Text with correct grammar at all times, it makes you feel like less of a douche bag.(or like a smart ass if they're texting like "wut r u doin 4 2day lol", but hey that's fun.)
2) My biggest complaint is the down time between sending and recieving texts, if you were on the phone or using IM, there would be less down time.
3) WTF IS SOZ!? Seriously, where did this shit come from. soz apparently means sorry but I fail to see how you got a fucking z in there.

Sorry - Only good version, all others are for jerks.
sry - annoying still, seriously dude, type the extra two fucking letters, you're saving like 1 second.
srry - this one is just unacceptable. It's one fucking letter, hit it you jackass.
soz - NOT FUCKING ACCEPTABLE, YOU NEED TO BE SHOT!

In short, stop being lazy, assholes.

Good to know that Necrachilles and I could be texting buddies. Unless I am purposefully misspelling things to our LAN buddies, ("hai gaiz, wuts goin on in hurr?") I type as if I were sending an email or writing a letter.

There is nothing funnier than getting a shorthand text from my mother. I swear, her texts look like they were written by a 13 year old girl. What makes it more amusing is that she has been an English teacher for more than 45 years.
