Rules of this thread: No politics, no shit talking, no bullshit.

(even though its a little early)

Where were you when you first heard what had happened on the morning of 9/11?

I had just walked into my sci-vis computer class, senior year at Grimsley high school, and it came out over the PA. I brought up the internet and saw the picture of the first tower burning, taken from either a chopper or another building nearby.

I spent the rest of the day really annoyed because every class had a TV in it and everyone was watching the same scenes over and over, with all the speculation and other bullshit going on.

I'm ashamed to admit that I was annoyed at everyone around me because I didn't understand what had just happened.

I wasn't a kid who paid attention to the world outside the USA, or even most of the USA itself. That day opened my world up, and I still cry when I see the footage.

I was in some algebra class in high school. We turned on the TV after hearing reports of a plane into 1 tower and then seeing footage of the 2nd plane.

My chemistry teacher refused to even turn on the TV and tried to make class go on as normal. I remember the sinking feeling still with thinking back to that day

I too had no idea what was going on.
I was in the locker room, watching some naked lady a dude drew on his knee cap dance.

I was in English class, sophomore year of high school. They made some crap uninformative announcement over the PA system, and then gradually we worked out what actually happened. English teacher told us to calm the fuck down when people starting yelling incoherent shit, which I applaud her for. Hysterics never got anyone anywhere.

Then panicked parents started picking up their kids (probably more reasonable to react that way given that it was New Jersey and we were close enough to see the smoke over the pond). There were like 3 of us in my last class, though needless to say we didn't exactly do much in terms of school that day.

I was at gym when they told us. It was my senior year of JHS and we were able to see the smoke out the window. The brooklyn sky was a dirty orange that day it was scary, but at the same time I was kind of thrilled. Three days before 9/11 I watched final destination 1 for the first time. Two days before 9/11 I had a dream that there were three planes circling in the sky and one fell down near me.

I stayed home from school because I was "sick".

Mom came home, said to turn to the news. She was tearing up, I had no idea what was going on, even with the picture of the towers blowing up right there.

Didn't sink in for a few minutes, probably because I couldn't fathom it.

Weeks before, I had a series of dreams while I was in Binghamton. I needed to be home, and now.

The night of 9/10, I don't remember falling asleep. I do, however, remember the dream I woke up from.

I was supposed to be at WTC7 that morning. My alarm never went off.

I woke up to the sound of the phone ringing. It was my aunt, in Georgia, asking where my father worked.

"In Manhattan", I replied.
"I know that, WHERE!?"
"Why?"
"TURN ON THE TV"
::TV turns on::
"... in the east village. ...He's fine. We're fine. Don't worry."
"CAN YOU GET IN TOUCH WITH HIM?"
"I said he's fine."
"HOW DO YOU KNOW? LET ME KNOW WHEN HE CALLS!!"
"He won't call for another 2 hours. Don't call until then."
"WHA-::click::"

The rest isn't needed. I do, however, remember the smell.

i was in history class, my junior year. when the second tower got hit, and we all knew it wasn't an accident my history teacher, this sweet little old lady, just sat at her desk and cried. i couldn't really process what was happening.

I was a college freshman... had a speech class at the ass crack of dawn that I went to, then over to a government class. The professor was late, and no one in the class had a clue what was happening. We were joking around about the unofficial 15 minute rule (if the professor is more than 15 minutes late you leave and assume class is cancelled)... he ran in after about 12 minutes obviously upset and told us to all go home and turn on the news.

I saw some of the coverage in my room, watched a fair bit of it on a big screen in a community room.

I was suspended from school along with classmates for throwing these little seed pods from the tree in front of our bus stop. Some kid got butthurt and we all got in trouble for it.

I woke up at about 8-9 and my dad was watching it, he had me sit down and I don't think I moved all day.

I was working for a private club at the time, and the TV was going when I got in to start the lunch prep. The second plane had already struck, if I remember correctly.

After I wrangled the relevant details from the dumbshits at the bar, I worked out that it couldn't be an accident...the odds of two planes doing that was just too incredible for it to be an accident.

I wasn't emotionally invested in it, since I didn't know anyone in that area, so I went back to work.

It got to be a much bigger deal in the days and weeks to come.

I was about to go to school, and i was kept home for idky. was like in grade 4 or 5.

Also my great uncle was in the second tower. When the first plane hit he booked it down 69 floors as a 70ish year old dude who just got back from having a knee replacement.

I was getting ready for class at college and I had the tv on. I only caught the news after the first plane hit but before the second, and at the time NBC was reporting that they thought it was a small plane, possibly a 2-6 seater. I remember finding it funny, how bad of a pilot do you have to be to hit the only building at that height.

When I got back from class I went to a house the commuter students hang out in and by then the second plane had hit. I walked in and 30 people were crammed into the living room watching the only tv, I think most people skipped class that day.

Middle of class, was on during lunch break but nobody in the school would talk about it at all. 9th grade I think.
