gear wise...full pvp gear...no exceptions except for icc ring and trinket imo (one of which should be the resil pvp trinket unless you're human...double solace is sexy or solace/lunar or skeleton key/x if you're having trouble surviving)...you can just go to the arenajunkies rankings and find some top priests and look at their armories.
first find a good comp to run with decent players ( i refuse to play with people who rage...it's just a game)
i played disc/rogue/boom to high 2100s but it is an awful comp imo
imo the best disc comps are:
disc/ele/rogue
disc/mage/lock
disc/mage/ele
dsc/rogue/ret
disc/rogue/feral
rogue/mage/priest of course
disc/rogue/ret and disc/rogue/feral aren't as good as they used to be though...but definitely capable of high ratings
i've played with a couple different priests in the last few arena seasons and every one of them had different play styles...you have to find the right balance between offense and defense...know when you need to dispell and put in all of your damage instead of healing the person who is at 50%...and landing a fear on multiple players can be huge...if you're playing with a rogue, be ready to throw a pws on him when he calls for it so he can get a clean vanish...learn to swd polymorphs and even blinds/scattershot...
when i pick up a new class i always watch high rated player's videos/streams of the class i'm learning...it helps a ton
