This idea was sparked by the desktop thread, as I noticed FUBU-ers using several different browsers.

P.S. If you don't have the time, you can skip to the last question and just mention what browser you use and why...but that would be lame.

QUESTIONS

Which web browser do you believe is the best in terms of add-ons (functionality/availability) and Why?

Which web browser do you think is most secure with personal information/defense of malicious attacks and Why?

Which web browser do you think runs fastest (assuming the same internet connection)?

Do you use the same web browser to view porn that you do for regular surfing? (Note: "I don't look at porn" is not an acceptable answer and a bold-faced lie.)

Have you ever met anyone who doesn't utilize tabbed-browsing? If so, did you promptly laugh at them?

True or False - Internet Explorer sucks dick

True or False - "Private Browsing" was designed specifically for porn viewing

What is your browser home page(s) upon opening?

Have you been to http://www.thewildernessdowntown.com/ in Google Chrome (which utilizes HTML5)? If not, please go. What did you think?

Do you have multiple web browsers installed on your computer, and do you use all of them?

So what web browser do you think is the best, and therefore you use it?

BONUS QUESTION:

Did you ever use Netscape, or another now-dead web browser (please name)?

1 > Firefox hands down, its got a well established core of add-on developers and offers several choices for each specific task you would want an add-on for in the first place

2 > Truth be told Lynx/Links because it doesn't support things like javascript and flash which is a huge issue security wise

3 > Chrome by far, however the new Firefox javascript engine is supposed to be pretty sexy but I haven't tried it yet.

4 > I use Chrome for everything (including porn, incognito mode FTW)

5 > Not recently, however when Firefox was still relatively new I found plenty still living in the stone age.

6 > True, it sucks but refuses to swallow

7 > False, its good for browsing anything you might not want in your history file (like job listing sites at work!)

8 > The default chrome homepage with the grid of most frequented sites

9 > Couldn't at work, office computers are underpowered dinoasaurs

10 > Yep, IE, Firefox and Chrome are all installed and used frequently for testing html code to ensure it looks good across the main browsers

11 > Chrome for now, its the fastest and least cluttered browser (by default at least) and has the most available screen real estate.

Bonus > Used Netscape back in the days before high-speed (14.4 and 33.6 Kbps days to be specific)

I use Firefox.

It works more than well enough, so I don't bother with anything else.

I used Netscape in middle school.

QUESTIONS

Which web browser do you believe is the best in terms of add-ons (functionality/availability) and Why?
Firefox; because it is.

Which web browser do you think is most secure with personal information/defense of malicious attacks and Why?
Netscape, because no one uses it.

Which web browser do you think runs fastest (assuming the same internet connection)?
Whichever has the least functionality.

Do you use the same web browser to view porn that you do for regular surfing? (Note: "I don't look at porn" is not an acceptable answer and a bold-faced lie.)
Yes.

Have you ever met anyone who doesn't utilize tabbed-browsing? If so, did you promptly laugh at them?
Yes and no.

True or False - Internet Explorer sucks dick
True.

True or False - "Private Browsing" was designed specifically for porn viewing
Mmmm...false. It's useful for accessing email and such on shared computers. If you're security conscious and you share your PC, yeah.

What is your browser home page(s) upon opening?
bbc.co.uk

Have you been to http://www.thewildernessdowntown.com/ in Google Chrome (which utilizes HTML5)? If not, please go. What did you think?
No. I didn't like Chrome and cbf installing it again.

Do you have multiple web browsers installed on your computer, and do you use all of them?
Yes and yes. I have IE and Firefox. Sometimes one bugs out, or can't display a page properly, so I use the other.

So what web browser do you think is the best, and therefore you use it?

Firefox.

BONUS QUESTION:

Did you ever use Netscape, or another now-dead web browser (please name)?[/quote]
I used Netscape because California schools insisted on it.

QUESTIONS

Which web browser do you believe is the best in terms of add-ons (functionality/availability) and Why?
Firefox; It's been open-source for a long time, was written with extensibility in mind and has a mature catalog of fie-tuned addons.

Which web browser do you think is most secure with personal information/defense of malicious attacks and Why?
I prefer Firefox and Chrome to protect against attacks... but I'm not sure I trust Chrome with personal information because of Google.

Which web browser do you think runs fastest (assuming the same internet connection)?
Chrome is pretty speedy on my machine.

Yea - I met people who didn't use tabbed browsing when I first started working. IE6 was big at the time and most of my clients couldn't use anything other than IE6 because of restrictions. Since most (if not all) browsers have tabbed browsing now I don't think its possible to not use it.

True or False - Internet Explorer sucks dick
True. I don't like how Microsoft doesn't follow W3C standards like everyone else. (I'm looking at you, box model 'bug'.)

True or False - "Private Browsing" was designed specifically for porn viewing
I use Private Browsing a lot at work so I don't leave a foot print at some... eh, questionable websites, like Demonoid.

What is your browser home page(s) upon opening?
iGoogle in both Firefox and Chrome. Some default start page in IE.

Have you been to http://www.thewildernessdowntown.com/ in Google Chrome (which utilizes HTML5)? If not, please go. What did you think?
I don't like HTML5 - A little too bloated for my tastes and I don't like the introduction of all the new elements. A footer element? Really? Can't we just use DIV tags and ID the footer? Maybe it's because I haven't started fully developing in HTML5 yet but I feel like it's just making things more complicated. I haven't fully explored the APIs of HTML5, like the new canvas or whatever... but jQuery and JavaScript were able to do everything HTML5 can do without all the HTML Standard bloat. I dunno, still a little skeptical.

Do you have multiple web browsers installed on your computer, and do you use all of them?
I have Chrome, Firefox, Safari and IE8 installed. (I have IE6 and IE7 though VS) I need to make sure my apps look right in each browser.

So what web browser do you think is the best, and therefore you use it?

I like Chrome. I feel it's pretty light-weight and I like how it maximizes the rendering area. I do wonder if Google is mining my data, though.

BONUS QUESTION:

Did you ever use Netscape, or another now-dead web browser (please name)?
I used Netscape and AOL. Netscape was required in middle school and AOL's browser is what I used at home until I got DSL.

QUESTIONS

Which web browser do you believe is the best in terms of add-ons (functionality/availability) and Why?
Firefox. Noscript. Don't leave home without it.

Which web browser do you think is most secure with personal information/defense of malicious attacks and Why?
Firefox. Noscript. Don't leave home without it.

Which web browser do you think runs fastest (assuming the same internet connection)?
lynx.

But for reals, Chrome.

Do you use the same web browser to view porn that you do for regular surfing? (Note: "I don't look at porn" is not an acceptable answer and a bold-faced lie.)
I don't look at porn...at work.

Yes.

Have you ever met anyone who doesn't utilize tabbed-browsing? If so, did you promptly laugh at them?
I tend to open new windows for different thoughts/projects/etc. I have about a dozen windows open right now, some with 6 or more tabs. I do not like to have everything in one window so I can easily alt+tab to the right place from any app I happen to be in (yes, I have ctrl+tab installed for firefox)

True or False - Internet Explorer sucks dick
Truer words have never been said.

True or False - "Private Browsing" was designed specifically for porn viewing
Yes.

What is your browser home page(s) upon opening?
Blank.

Have you been to http://www.thewildernessdowntown.com/ in Google Chrome (which utilizes HTML5)? If not, please go. What did you think?
It has the pretty. It asked for information I did not feel like giving it, so I can't speak to the overall experience.

Do you have multiple web browsers installed on your computer, and do you use all of them?
Running right now: Firefox (+ VM), Chrome, Safari, Explorer (in VM), Konqueror. Sometimes Galeon depending on what X manager the laptop gets booted into.

So what web browser do you think is the best, and therefore you use it?

I will not use any browser for a non-trusted site, or any site that has advertisements that does not run Noscript. That means Firefox.

BONUS QUESTION:

Did you ever use Netscape, or another now-dead web browser (please name)?
Netscape, and it's little brothers Mosaic and Arena. And let's not forget about our buddy gopher.

I like the answers so far. Seems like Firefox is still the overwhelming favorite, I thought Chrome would have more of a representation.

It just asks for your childhood address because the thing pulls images from Google Earth and incorporates them into the video. It makes it pretty cool.

I suspect FUBU users' browser favourites will break down similarly to Ars Technica's readers'

I use Chrome for the speed and small UI.

All this, though Firefox has been notorious for being a memory hog, from just browser overhead to longstanding memory leaks*.

P.S. The code Chrome is built on (Chromium) is open source, and some people combed through the code and pulled out almost all of the "Google peeping" code. The resulting browser is called SRWare Iron. I personally use Chrome because I don't really care that Google knows what my top visited sites are or whatever, but anyone more sensative to such things can use SRWare Iron for the Chrome experience.

* Under certain conditions, if you leave Firefox open in the background for extended periods of time, it's memory consumption steadily increases until the system bogs down as it starts using the page file/virtual memory.

Ah, did not know this. Good info. I know at work we don't like using chrome, because we have a network of web sites that we don't want Google knowing about.

Not that simple. We want Google knowing about them, because we want them to rank...we just don't want them knowing about the network (IE that they are all connected)
