I don't know, I think 50 First Dates could be the gateway drug to converting an Adam Sandler non-believer due to its appeal to a wider audience than what his older movies catered to.

Adam Sandler has been in Billy Madison and Punch Drunk Love.

Don't know if you like either, but those are vastly different films that have almost nothing in common except Adam Sandler. If you couldn't stand his infantile humor in the first, that would be a really ignorant reason to assume you hate the second. And if you did end up hating the second, that wouldn't be the reason.

Just saying, actors play roles. Roles don't necessarily have anything in common with the actor or with other roles they've played.
