Ofc, all you had to know was "take your clothes off" and "do you have any friends that want to come too?".

The only anime I'm particularly attached to (Cowboy Bebop) has superb dubbing anyway. And by superb I mean anyone who doesn't speak japanese and thinks it's better with subtitles is not only ugly, but they're an idiot that can't recognize good voice acting.

There are a few anime I prefer the dubs to. Aforementioned Cowboy Bebop is one of them. But there are a few where I don't know what drugs the casting directors were on when they were picking VAs. Ugghhh.

Also "ouch, there are giant tentacles in my orifices". That one was harder to learn cause it usually sounded like "mmf mmmmf mmmmf".

Well, to reiterate something I said earlier, I will quote from Roger Ebert's review of Ponyo:

Quote:
Already I have heard from a few people who don’t want to see it “because it’s Japanese.” This is solid-gold ignorance. “Is it only dubbed?” I was asked. You dummy! All animated films are dubbed! Little Nemo can’t really speak!

Okay but I saw Toy Story (the first one) in a theater in Mexico City and not hearing Tom Hank's voice made the movie a lot less interesting. JUST SAYIN'

But yeah I agree films should stay in their original language, I don't mind reading subtitles because it keeps the story making sense. Weird voice overs bring down the overall quality of the film.

Have any of you seen Waltz With Bashir ? I haven't done any research but I'll wager the makers had to animate it because they would not have been able to get any actors to do it due to the subject matter. Pretty hard hitting for animation, imo. Worth a look.

the only time that this is acceptable is those instances where he dubs them himself. so it is just as unintelligible as normal

I saw it. I too imagine they did it animated for the reason you mentioned.

So the remake is out.........

and getting surprisingly good reviews.

Hrm. I'm going to see it at some point, might have to reassess my depression over it being remade if it's good.

I've just been reading tons of reviews about it.

Pretty much, people who haven't seen the original will think it's awesome.

People who have seen the original, will enjoy it, and there are a few unique scenes and performances that differ from the original.

However, on the whole, it's not as good as the original (which was a masterpiece) but good enough.

Sounds about right.

Seems to me that it will be similar to the original, only taken more in a horror direction and less in the drama direction. That's... ok. Different, but ok.

And honestly, so long as people who haven't seen the original will think it's good, that's a definitely plus. The story is amazing, and I hate seeing foreign films with amazing stories being remade into piles of shit that everyone hates (which discredits the original to potential new viewers).

Rule number one for hollywood during "dry times" (times when no one can come up with good ideas). You take a good movie that is maybe 20+ years old, you hire semi-know actors so you can save money, and you make the film the way you think it should, which means it sucks ass because you saw the movie as a kid and cant remember shit. These movies are made only for proffit and will make enough money to drive some other mouth breather want-to-be director to remake another classic.

Except this is a remake of a 2008 movie.
