TLDR: Alabama Senator Richard Shelby blocked the confirmation of one of Obama's nominee's for one of the governor's for the Federal Reserve. The same nominee was given a Nobel Prize in Economics

Obama was nominated for hte nobel prize after 11 days in office.

I don't believe that award is given out, in any field, for anything other than political reasons.

The reason for the block was something retarded like lack of experience wasn't it?

Yeah, let's cite that against a position that's pretty much concerned with purely theoretical things anyway. Against a guy who's got a Nobel prize in his field. (It's not political because it's not American, and certainly not in a field like economics).

I'm saying if they'll give it to obama after 11 days in office, I wouldn't weigh that award so highly anymore.

different field, though it may have been.

Still, the other two were approved, if this guy didn't get in, I doubt it's because he's got a nobel prize. probably something else going on that isnt getting reported, imo.

Every move should require justification and reasoning. If you can't deliver, someone gets to punch you in the face.

I support Obama, and don't think he should've gotten the nobel prize for peace.... Honestly there's gotta be a better recipient for it at that point....

That being said. This person was blocked due to lack of experience (ignoring Nobel Committee for the time being).

He is an American economist known for his analysis of U.S. Social Security policy and his work as an advisor to the Advisory Council on Social Security in the late 1980s and 1990s. He earned his Ph. D. in Economics from MIT. Chaired the Economics Department, given the position of Institute Professor (highest position at MIT), President of the American Economics Association, Published a book on Social Security. THE CURRENT CHAIRMAN OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE IS A FORMER STUDENT OF HIS. And he specializes in non-standard labor that deals with unemployment.

i'm confused as to the lack of experience

Wasn't Richard Shelby the guy who blocked a quarter of Obama's nominations for over a year because Obama cut some of his pork from a bill?

I'm not saying the guy shouldn't have gotten the job.

I'm just expressing my distaste at the nobel prize.

Why I don't agree with the fact that Obama got it while at the time he was fighting two wars, it doesn't mean that the entire Nobel Award system suddenly becomes bullshit because Obama got it.

Then again, the power politics that could happen in the economics world could be baffling (spoiler: not in the least).

To be fair to obama, he inherited those wars.

Power politics comes into play when the economist is up for a political position, or a position appointed by a person in a political position.

Even if its not government, politics are always in play.

Read about this guy in the paper today. Not sure why he got the nobel prize for what he got it for. I need to look into this further because i'm not impressed.
