On the train between NYC and Newark today (the PATH for those of you who give a shit or have a hard-on for rail lines) was this probably Latin American, well-dressed, likely middle class young single mom (she didn't have a ring on her finger), an older woman that I assumed was her mother, and the young mom's son. Now, this is nothing exceptional, but what I felt I had to rant about here was the kid in question.

He looked like he was about four years old, kinda pudgy in an overnurtured first child sort of way, and he was in a goddamn stroller. Being bottle fed. I don't know about you guys, but my mom assures me that when I was like one and a half living in Toronto, I already refused to get in my goddamn stroller and insisted on walking. I didn't ask about baby bottles, but considering some of my earliest mundane memories involve a red plastic cup, I'd venture I was through with bottles pretty quick too. I guess this could just have been tacked onto that thread about the good ol' days Jubber made a few weeks ago, but seriously. Is it weird to think a four year old should be walking and drinking normally? I'm not trying to say kids should grow up because I submit that I'll be a kid my whole life, but childhood isn't fun if you're being coddled.

Somewhat related to public transportation, a ton of people have really fucking bad teeth. The end until I think of something else to bitch about.

When I was still in my stroller (and young enough that it was age-appropriate to be), my mom said, I would read the Sunday funnies and laugh at the jokes. This made bystanders stare, so they stopped taking me out in public.

I see parents with strollers getting on and off the subway all the time. That shit takes up soooooo much room. It's mildly annoying when it's an infant (I might just be a jerk but I think I would carry my baby a lot more than people seem to, just to not have to deal with the hardware to lug around).

But when I see a child that can fucking walk sitting in the thing, I want to kick it in the face. I don't enjoy being crammed in there like sardines while this asshole is taking up room enough for 3 people because their kid is too lazy to walk.

I can see where the parent is coming from, considering that its the New York train system and I wouldn't trust a hyperactive 4 year old down there for shit.

Then they should invest in one of these

It will still make them look like a shitty parent, but at least the kid will get some exercise while they struggle to break free.

Back in the late 90s I worked at a toy store in the mall. I was completely baffled by the number of 5-6 year olds in strollers, using pacifiers, and drinking from bottles. I am the oldest of three and my brothers are 5 and 7 years my junior so I remember them drinking from sippy cups and not using strollers by 1 and a half or so. My kids were off bottles by the same age, maybe a shade younger. And my wife spent a fucking fortune on strollers that never got u sed because I refused to have the kids sit around all day. Now certain situations called for a stroller but most of the time the kids walked beside the stroller and then got in when they got tired or if it was a very crowded area. I could possibly see the lil fat bastard in a stroller, but a fucking bottle when you are old enough to look up porn on the internet is a bit much.

That sucks, because at that age it is bad for that child to be drinking out of a bottle. You are supposed to give up the bottle after the first year unless the developmental wise the child isn't ready. It's different for every kid but it is around that time that you introduce solid foods, baby foods steamed veggies etc.

Stroller, is somewhat acceptable. Only for the purpose of convenience, if you don't have a child it's a little harder to understand, but tomorrow when you get up for work go to the store and get a 40lb bag of sand and carry it around with you. Children get tired quicker than adults so calling a kid 'lazy' doesn't really fit unless the kid is grossly obese and at that age it's the parents fault not the child's.

All in all someone already said it. Bad parent is bad parent.

Breastfeeding at 10? That is disgusting, after that much time the nutritional value for the child is far gone. It's not even useful.

I have to carry a backpack with my work computer, various things for the weather (usually a lighter or heavier jacket or a rain coat, hat scarf gloves etc in the winter, umbrella), and various other things. Take it with me to work every day.

Obviously not as heavy as a child and I understand that, but at no point have I thought I'd rather push it around in front of me in a stroller.

Basically what I'm saying is get your baby some straps and wear them on your back.
