To be fair to King, the Shining, The Running Man, and Misery were all outstanding.

Even though it suffers from a bit of 80s made for TV cheesiness, IT is still a great one too.

Tim Curry as Pennywise still frightens me.

that's in bad taste actually. stephen king was actually hit by a van while walking near his home in maine. it crippled him, turned him into an alcoholic and addicted to pain killers. although, it also helped him wrap up the Dark Tower series.

He's also a jerk. I grew up in the Bangor area, which is where king lives. The media hayday when it happened was sickening, and King was kind of a douche about the whole thing.

I mean yea, he got hit by a van, but he complained when the driver's 6 month jail sentence was suspended, and also essentially demanded that they revoke his license entirely, saying "There isn't really anything that he's got that I want except his license. Unfortunately that's a paper that's very hard to get away from anybody in any state."

Yea the dude was careless, and was distracted by his dog in the van, which is stupid, but nobody gets crucified this way for an accident... unless you hit stephen king, a vengeful old bastard.

Oh, and the guy that hit him, ODed on perscription painkillers and died.

I lived in Maine in the early 80s (parents were in the military so I moved alot) and a few times I have made mention of living there I have got the "did you live near Steven King?" replies. I have to remind them that even though some people think Maine is some foreign country, it is still pretty fucking big.

Yea. Unless you live in Penobscot county, you probably haven't spent any significant time nearby. I grew up in the town right next to Bangor, and have been by his house a lot. Its a cool looking place, I guess. He used to be more friendly... when I was a kid, you could actually trick-or-treat there on Halloween. Where in Maine did you live?

Lisbon Falls, near Bathe. There is a very large Navy air base there. My dad used to fly back and forth to Iceland on a radar plane looking for Soviet subs. I used to love watching the planes take off from my house. I left there in 1st grade though. I still remeber the snow banks taller than my dad (my point of reference for the height).

The best part is that my very country boy / almost redneck brother was born in Maine. We remind him of this when he gets a little too country.

Shawshank Redemption... best King inspired movie... period.

The Green Mile... great book... decent movie.

Stand By Me
... solid, enjoyable movie.

It
... really good book until the end where King ran into "how do I end this" mode, like he always seemed to do in his scary shit. Tim Curry's Pennywise is the only redeeming thing about a production that sucked balls.

EDIT: Carrie ... dumb.

no it appeared in his book of novellas entitled, "Different Seasons" it was originally titled Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption. it also includes The Body which the film Stand By Me is based off of, and the novella Apt Pupil, which was brilliant, but turned into a terrible movie.

Verily, I have often laughed at weaklings who thought themselves proud because they had no claws.
