Without reading the thread, I'm going to take a shot in the dark and go with

If the kid is violent by nature, a video game will have no effect on him. If he's not, then he'll just become more used to the idea of it.

Let me pose a related question. Would a kid playing Little Mermaid or Let's Bake A Cake make him a pussy? I'm thinking not.

It's not that black and white. People are changed by what they see, and not necessarily for the better.

Violence (or lack of) one is exposed to does not determine one's ability for compassion.

Especially when it's not firsthand.

Most of my music library makes some reference (many in horrific fashion) to death and violence.

I also escort bugs I find in my house outside.

My stepmother is a big horror fan. Also one of the nicest people I know.

Her mother, who cannot stand violence, harsh noise or the like, is a bitter, spiteful bitch to anyone she doesn't like (like me, and now my dad as well).

Instead of going by age, retailers should just refuse to sell violent games to anyone who looks or acts like a mass murderer. I mean, look at most of the people who shoot up schools. They all look fucking crazy to begin with.


Although I suppose that discriminating based on creepiness would cut out a good portion of the market as well. >.>
