Government deficits cause unemployment because they raise civil interest rates and shrink the money supply. Raising taxes to close the deficit will lower interest rates and increase corporate borrowing, causing the economy to expand.

I will not vote on a tax increase until I can be assured the government won't waste it.

If they wanted more money, they could spend the money they have wisely.

Like every rational business leader, the government knows to make a profit by cutting services and costs.

Oh, and the Fed said they're going to just devalue your money if you won't give it to them.

a rational thought process but unfortunately not really applicable. you can't say you will limit the government to "the money they have". they print the money.

building on that, most money exists because we want it to, not because it does.

It's not like the government needs to raise taxes, they need to cut military spending.

Your forgetting, sir, that we need to protect our oil interests

It is also important that we spread our system of government and values to as many people as possible...because we're right, and everyone else is wrong, so we need to show them the light through military force :)

The only problem with taxes and especially fees and administrative regulations is that they disproportionately affect small businesses, because they have less of a safety net and less capacity to borrow. This is problematic when you consider that small businesses make up the majority of all businesses and employ about half the population. Small business also improves the distribution of wealth, which is necessary to have a healthy economy.

In that same vein, the problem with a lot of consumer protections are that they aren't designed to protect the consumer so much as they are to create a barrier to entry. If large corporations really have the ear of government, which I believe they do, who do you think is proposing these protections?

If I have economies of scale and thousands of employees I can much more readily absorb the cost of complying with regulations than a small business. This makes it harder for new entrants and can even push existing competition out allowing me to increase market share and repeat the cycle.

Even I agree with this. I think it's about time we let Iraq get down to the business of screwing itself up and breaking down into several smaller ethnic countries, like India did after the Brits finally left. Afghanistan is probably never going to be any better than it is right now. We should pull out as soon as is reasonable, and not just there. It's time to give Germany and Japan the responsibility for their own defense again...as we should for the rest of Europe. We don't need a ginormous standing army, just some "first responders" and a staffed National Guard.
