No, but he doesn't know the first thing about economics.

Exactly. While you could *in theory* return to the gold standard, it would likely cause a world-wide economic catastrophe. We'd have to renege on our promissory notes and have enough gold stockpiled to ride out the shitstorm. That, in turn, would lead to other markets around the world crashing, etc. Suffice to say, not exactly a brilliant idea.

Rand also made a point that he thinks private businesses should be allowed to remain segregated.

It's not even that I think that's an irrational position (though it's a stupid one), but it's more that I'd love to see you come to its defense.

That point was mis-represented by partisans trying to win an election (a certain journalist on MSNBC recently was put on non-paid leave for this), when they actually went and asked Rand Paul what he thought about things like The Civil Rights Act and got his actual opinion it, he said he'd have voted for it.

Rather than broad partisan speculation, I'd take someone's actual words and actions over an enemy's speculation of what they employ as an opinion.

The discussion was over does someone have the right to deny service to someone they don't like. Like if I don't want to transmute a gem for you under the practice of freedom (and happens to be WoW style of professions) I can deny xmuting a gem for you for whatever reason I want.

It was a clear setup, laughable but sneaky. Maybe it well work out for them better next election cycle on someone.

no, it's code for "the guy couldn't get board certified so he created his own imaginary board and certified himself"

the guy is a whack.

I'm pretty sure if you have a medical degree, you're considered a doctor, the same way you'd be a doctor of English Literature or Engineering. Saying he is "Dr. Paul," is just recognizing his level of education. I'm also pretty sure that whether you "self-certify" yourself or not, you can't practice medicine without a license from the state (whether you hold a doctorate or not). I doubt that he was, because I really don't believe you could do that and not be tossed in a cell someplace.
Also, I don't have room on my to-do list for all this shit you guys seem to think I should be doing. It's hard enough finding time to be a bigot, sexist homophobe without having to fellate people just for agreeing with them. There's just way too much travel involved.

Actually, given the hold that the US has on material not claimed...

It was a brilliant idea.

I don't know that we could return to a gold standard, either, but that doesn't mean that we couldn't find some way of tying our money to reality again so that the government can't completely devalue every penny in your bank account by minting assloads of pennies.

Jekyll Island is absolutely fucking fucking beautiful despite the name. Went there with my wife one weekend back when we were married.

This special conference marks the centenary of the 1910 Jekyll Island meeting that resulted in draft legislation for the creation of a U.S. central bank. Parts of this draft (the Aldrich plan) were incorporated into the 1913 Federal Reserve Act. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the drafting of the Aldrich plan, the conference will take place at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel on Jekyll Island, Georgia—the same building where the 1910 meeting occurred.

On April 10, 1912, the Titanic, largest ship afloat, left Southampton, England on her maiden voyage to New York City. The White Star Line had spared no expense in assuring her luxury. A legend even before she sailed, her passengers were a mixture of the world's wealthiest basking in the elegance of first class accommodations and immigrants packed into steerage.
