I wanted to see it, couldn't watch it and can't find it anywhere.

Looks like it's posted on some blog.

http://www.therightscoop.com/full-inter ... matt-lauer

Matt is talking to Bush about the key points in the book he recently released. His family. His administration. His alcoholism. 9/11 and the decisions that surrounded that day, subsequent days and the run on Afghanistan. They also talked about Iraq and how Bush was, and still is, disappointed they didn't find WMDs - Bush was talking about how the intel seemed solid and how Saddam's defiance with UN weapon inspectors fueled that action. They talked about Hurricane Katrina, the response and why FEMA help was slow. They also talked about water boarding, the three people who were water boarded, and the results of water boarding. Matt cornered Bush by asking him if it's Ok for another country to waterboard Americans in a time of war - Bush side-stepped that completely. Bush also explained how hard it was to issue the TARP but how he eventually came about that decision. They finally talked about Obama and how Bush has been silent over the years. Bush said something like, "Obama has many critics and I'm not going to be one of them."

Bush came across as a very head-strong person. He showed he didn't act for buying popularity. I still think he genuinely had our safety in mind when he did the things he did.

He's going to be on a dozen other shows in the coming week or two.

I'll agree. Many people try to paint Bush as the embodiment of evil, a selfish little rich kid who just wanted to impress his dad by taking down Saddam (since his dad couldn't do it).

I personally think those are unfair accusations.

Did Bush make a lot of mistakes as president? Yes. Did he make some really stupid decisions? Yes. Was I happy when his 2nd term ended? Yes.

However, I think he governed the best way he knew how, and truly did things that he thought were in the best interests of America.

I think history will show that while Bush wasn't a "great" or maybe even a "good" president, he certainly wasn't the worst.

I think he made what he thought were the right decisions based on the information he saw, but he surrounded himself with people who made absolutely sure he did not have a comprehensive look at the information.

And ultimately, that is his responsibility. The intel for WMDs looked solid because all of the intel that did not support that conclusion was systematically filtered out before it got to his desk. Even if he wouldn't have wanted that to happen, it was still his staffing decisions that led to the outcome, so it's ultimately his responsibility.

I don't think he is the embodiment of evil, I think he was a weak executive with underlings that were the embodiment of either evil, or at least a ridiculous sense of moral relativism.

This reminds me of an interview I saw with Bill Clinton three or four years after George Bush became president. I remember thinking how confident, intelligent, and charismatic Clinton appeared. Looking at this, while Bush doesn't put off the same charisma, he sort of makes up for it in appearing forthright. Both of them seemed so much more the leader after they had spent some time away from the stress and spotlight of eight years working a job that is essentially 24/7/365. I was glad to see Clinton go. I was glad to see Bush go. I never would have believed that I would feel nostalgic for either of those administrations. Way to go, Barrack.

Also, Dick Cheney is practically a shakespearean villain. I truly believe he is a bad person.

You'd know he wasn't the worst if you were old enough to remember Carter.

Just think, one day you guys will able be able to say something like that about Obama.

Boredalt, yet again, nails it like a death star powered hammer.

I could say the same about how Bob Dole appeared so much more human and desirable as a leader after his campaign was lost and over.

I wonder what it is about washington that does this to people.

Maybe that's why he's so cool? How many other people could shoot their friend in the face have the guy basically say, "Sorry, man, was my fault for being in the way. Anyway, it's just Dick, you know?"

I think you're jealous that you're not as cool as a fat, white senior citizen who has a heart-attack every three minutes, or maybe you're just mad that Cheney is a better bad guy than Darth Vader.

Much like I think Bush was unfairly criticized while he was in office, I think Obama is suffering the same fate.

Really, he's only been in office for 2~ years and you guys are already just ripping his administration to shreds. Check this out if you think Obama has done absolutely nothing:

Carter was no where near the worst. In fact, he wasn't that bad.

We had no military conflicts under his presidency. Unless you think peace is a bad thing, that's a plus.

He identified several problems that American culture was dealing with, which we decided to not solve and we still are struggling with. To wit, we still do not have energy independence. Unless you think actually pointing out what our problems are instead of ignoring them for popularity is a bad thing, that's a plus.

Was he the best? Of course not. The worst? Please. There are many presidents who have a lot fewer positive notes about their tenure than he does.

I'm guessing you've never even listened to Rush, have you? You've probably only heard sound clips that have been used to misrepresent what he says (yea, it happens a lot) or you're probably just judging him based on what some other left-leaners say. Still, the interview is good and you should listen to it instead of being a bitch over who is actually conducting it.

I clicked through about 20 of those factoids and I'd estimate that 75% of them were based on spending money we don't have... and of that 75%, most of his 'accomplishments' are rooted in his Health Care reform, which I suspect will find itself in deep water come next year. Spending money is fine if you're running a balanced budget. I just read recently that Obama has done half the damage Bush did to the national debt in one quarter the time. (I'm super fiscally conservative so this is one of my biggest issues with any president.)
