Even I have to say that seems like a huge waste of money.

How can you say Immortality is a waste of money?

300k is a bargain for - far and away - the rarest mount in the game. Definitely rarer than Invincible or Al'ar or the Brotodrake or Old School Rides or the Slow Brewfest Ram. And it actually looks cool.

If I want to make the money back later I'll just buy gamecards with gold and sell them for cash.

Do you have a total count of how much money have you spent on server transfers, name changes, etc? Do you pay for all of them, or trade them for gold/services?

Not a hard and fast figure, no.

I'd estimate between 1-2k in the four years I've played this game.

By way of reference, that's way cheaper than smoking or social drinking and less than most of the computers people buy to play the game on.

I have no regrets. Why would I? $2k is not so bad for four years' entertainment.

That said, I never use cash when I can use gold, and although I'm financially reliant on my parents, I try to be frugal with both WoW spending and necessary and discretionary real life spending. There's a difference between buying things you want for as little as you can pay and simply setting money on fire.

Faction change + server change there and back
Buying gold (big fucking no no)
Spending real money on TCG items to sell in game
All for 1 mount and 25 achievment points.
Is there really no way you could convince TB or Hero Squad to pull this off?

I guess I see the 100 or more dollars you spent on the server/faction moves alone as a complete waste plus it was that guilds first kill so they easily could have fucked it up and either kept you there for another week or possibly not given a shit/refund at all.

However, grats because I know that was one thing you have been after for a while.

I know you have a profficiency for making gold in game, but you have also openly admitted to buying gold. There is a point where enough is enough, just saying.

No, his points are very valid.

I understand your perspective and to a great extent I agree.

This is the only occasion I've actually bought gold (by proxy), and the only reason I did so was that time was up and I simply had no other options. Like I said, the pendulum can just as easily swing the other way. If there was any other way - even farming TK trash for months - I'd have done it. There wasn't.

Regarding the TCG, it wasn't quite that simple. What I actually bought was a Nether Rocket card. I already had an XTREME rocket, and the card gives both, so I kept the slow one and sold the one I already had. In effect, I double dipped - I accomplished an unrelated goal.

Bluntly, there's no way Hero Squad could do this - Anub P3 is insanely difficult now with the change to health pools and MS, almost unkillable even by top-drawer guilds. I asked TB - went to enormous lengths (you have no idea) to attempt to convince them to do this. They weren't interested; nothing I could say or do would change that (and believe me I tried). Even if TB agreed, they'd have no easier a time of it, they could just as easily fail because of the changes and their own disinterest (having obtained it already). TB offered to do it a while back, but when they made the offer I'd already committed to purchasing the head from Gwen Stefani.

The achievement is a Feat of Strength; it gives no achievement points. Makes no difference to me either way, and even if it gave no feat and the mount was a cardboard box I'd still want it because it is there.

I was very aware Vigil might not be able to accomplish this (and bluntly, if someone not me was present, even their own raiders, they'd probably have failed - I kept myself up through three pcolds with shield wall/LoH/WoG when their healers ran oom - you may see this as an apologia, or a rationalization for getting carried, which to some extent it is, but it's also true - just as it's true they made the unique decision to deny one of their own the achievement to do this for me for a relatively small amount of gold). If, however, Vigil failed, I knew the trip would not be a total loss - Mal'ganis has an abundance of other rare mounts on the AH, and I could simply resell the things I had purchased to sell for gold.

Like I said, I could simply buy and sell gamecards later, and the total cost is no more than a new computer or a cheap weekend in Vegas...and you'd be hard pressed to argue that those aren't anything but entertainment/discretionary expenses.

This is my hobby, and I don't mind spending cash on it any more than anyone else does for theirs.

That said, if your respect for me is diminished, I am genuinely sorry to hear that.

they claimed they would sell it... however it's believed that was never actually their intention.

Tbqh, I'm genuinely surprised by your gracious response. Thanks.

as well, wasn't Tb selling this or did they stop.

They were, for 200k; they stopped after like a month or so, and I don't think they got even a single buyer.

Thinking about it more, I thought of how to actually make money off this xfer; the full details will be divulged in a few months.

Question: Do your parents know how much of their money you've spent on WoW?

I never had the luxury of having my parents support me in college (I worked/took out loans), but if they were supporting me and I used those funds on a video game....there would have been hell to pay.

I guess it's just different parenting styles I guess.

Yes, they know.

They also see WoW as an outlet for...energy that is best diffused in the game world rather than in real life. It is enough for them that I enjoy it and it does me no harm, or at least less harm than many potential alternatives.

Think how much it costs to go out to bars, or smoke, or do weed, or buy and play other video games, or get tattoos, or buy gasoline, or pay for a car, or a new computer, or buy clothes, or how much you spend buying the necessities of life such as food, sundries, school materials and technology. You know well that I am generally extremely frugal and seldom pay retail.

WoW is my hobby. Like I said, taken in perspective, and considering all the many things I don't do, and how much more cheaply I do the things that everyone does, it's really not hugely expensive.

I spend...$15 a month on sub, $10 a month on vent, and maybe $25 a month on transfers/race changes. Can you really say that's more expensive or worse than, say, going to the bar once a week, or any other habit one might have?

Can you really say any of that discretionary spending undertaken by college students is better than WoW?

Don't forget, I don't "have a life" in the sense you understand it.

I see no reason to give him a hard time about the purchases, it's not how I'd spend my time or money, but then we have different perspectives and priorities.

I will however say that considering your righteous indignation towards anything deemed hypocritical that you, Aestu, should do yourself a favor and never bag on anyone else, about anything, ever...

Why is it that whenever Aestu buys something it turns into desperate housewives...

it's his gold/money
